Bella Hadid's Stylist Reveals What Was Going On Underneath That Daring Red Dress
Earlier this week, Bella Hadid completely stole the show when she hit the red carpet in Cannes for The Unknown Girl (La Fille Inconnue) premiere wearing a dangerously revealing red Alexandre Vauthier gown. It looked like she had artfully, yet effortlessly, swathed herself in a wisp of silky red satin, making sure to cover only the most necessary bits before heading out-and I say that with the highest of praise.
It was the kind of dress that had us oohing and ahhing at its stunning beauty, while at the same time holding our breath in fear of the many potential wardrobe malfunctions that could've occurred at any moment. Every adjustment and move Hadid made had us in awe-and riddled with anxiety.
Like when she tugged at those teeny-tiny triangles holding her plunging neckline in place:

We had a surge of panic when the back of her dress flew a little too high and a Marilyn moment seemed imminent…
And then when the train tangled between her legs threatening to sending her tumbling.
But miraculously, against all odds and expectations, no nip slips or disastrous flashes or falls did occur. Which left us wondering: What kind of sartorial sorcery was this? What magic was at work behind-the-scenes-or seams, if you will-that allowed Bella to walk so gracefully down the red carpet without missing a beat or baring it all?
Vanity Fair spoke to the model's stylist, Elizabeth Sulcer, for answers:
"We knew we wanted to create something really beautiful and iconic in collaboration with Alexandre Vauthier," Sulcer said. "He is an amazing friend and talent in the industry. Every aspect of the dress was planned."
When asked about what was going on underneath the gown (because obviously no Spanx or undergarments were worn), Sulcer revealed the secret detail: "The dress has a built-in silk bodysuit."
"Top-stick [tape] is always a good idea," she continued, sharing a few pro tips for pulling off a look like this. "Practice makes perfect. You have to consider everything. A fitting is not the same as wearing the dress. Bella is smart and confident, and we knew she could wear that dress."
And indeed she did! That was some slayage for the ages.
