Dear Bobbi,
I want to wear red lipstick for fall, but I can’t seem to find the right shade. Can you help?
Thanks,
Marisa
Dear Marisa,
Some women look amazing in red lipstick and it’s easy for them to wear a range of reds. If you like yourself in red lipstick, see how you look in a bright shade versus a dark one. But red lipstick doesn’t work on everyone. Dense, matte formulas are more of a commitment, and will either work or not. A sheer formula is more forgiving, and easier to wear. Try a lipstain or even a lipgloss in red as an option—it’s the easiest way to wear red.

Dear Bobbi,
I’m now 55 and have light wrinkles around my lips. How do I keep lipstick or chunky lip pencils from bleeding off my lips?
Thank you,
Jaynie
Dear Jaynie,
Use a lip pencil that is close to your natural lip color to outline and then fill in your whole lip. That is the best way to create a base so that your lipstick won’t spread out. Apply lipstick on top of it.

Dear Bobbi,
What the easiest way to keep my lipstick from coming off during the day? I teach for a living and don’t have time to reapply often.
Thanks for your help!
Janice
Dear Janice,
There is no such a thing as a lipstick that stays on all day that actually looks good. I would suggest using a matte lipstick, it will stay on longest and you can refresh it around lunchtime. You can always apply a tinted lip balm to keep the color on—just a quick swipe will refresh your look, no mirror required.
