It’s been a big month for Kendall Jenner. She’s nabbed the May cover of GQ and spent last week celebrating the launch of her Calvin Klein #mycalvins denim campaign—which includes a few giant billboards, one in New York’s SoHo neighborhood and outside of Opening Ceremony in West Hollywood—shot by Alasadair McLellan. On top of that, the 19-year-old is posing (alongside three Great Danes) for famed fashion photographer Steven Klein in V Magazine Issue 95.

In the issue, which hits newsstands on May 7 and includes a fold-out poster of Jenner, the reality TV star-turned-model talks about getting her start in the fashion industry. “You have no idea how many doors closed on me and how many adults were either initially reluctant to take a chance working with me or who outright laughed at me behind my back,” Jenner tells V Magazine. “It was kind of hard because all I was doing was going on go-sees, trying my best to break into this business as a teenager. I am so grateful to Marc Jacobs, Riccardo Tisci, Karl Lagerfeld, and Katie Grand, who took a chance on me that first season and gave me an opportunity.” Since Jenner made her runway debut at the fall/winter 2014 shows, she’s walked for everyone from Tommy Hilfiger to Balmain—with no sign of slowing down in sight. “My parents taught me that work ethic is one of the most important keys in life, and I believe it,” she says.

This spread in V95 marks the first time Jenner has worked with photographer Steven Klein. “He is such an intensely talented person but he is cool and actually quite hilarious to work with,” says Jenner. “We vibe very well. We have some sort of telepathic mojo. This shoot was particularly fun because he brought his three Great Danes. Everyone knows, but he has the most incredibly beautiful Great Danes. They’re huge and one of them even slightly bit my head, that’s how gigantic he was! My head’s okay though.” Jenner looks fresh-faced and youthful in the spread, thanks to a simple makeup look by Sammy Mourabit and au naturel hair styled by Jimmy Paul. She wears a simple Calvin Klein bra top paired with skinny jeans and denim shorts—two pieces that are available as part of the #mycalvins Denim Series and sold exclusively at Opening Ceremony for the launch.

As far as those giant billboards go, Jenner tells V that she’s excited about seeing them in person. “This will be my first billboard on Sunset, which I’m ecstatic about,” she says. “It’s really humbling, and honestly, I am a pretty shy person, but being part of the Calvin campaign and seeing myself up there will be a dream come true. I might have to eat every night at the Chateau Marmont with that hanging over my shoulder. ‘Oh yeah, that little thing? I didn’t notice!’”
