Jennifer Lopez is an Ageless Sorceress
Jennifer Lopez does not age. Actually, she’s looked the exact same since the ‘90s, aside from a few changes in eyebrow trends. J.Lo’s body and skin look phenomenal, and the 47-year-old isn’t afraid to flaunt her assets in the skintight, sheer bodysuits that she’s been wearing for years. Thursday night’s Latin Grammy Awards were no exception, and with waist-length hair, her signature shimmery bronzed glow, and a sultry smoky eye, we’re wondering what kind of black magic Jenny from the Block has up her sleeve that’s keeping her looking so radiant, and if she’s willing to share.
“If you saw the super sexy, sheer, deep maroon, beaded jumper that fit her like a glove, the stick straight hair parted down the center, and the glowing radiant skin with subtlety faded hues on her eyes, cheeks and lips, you might infer that we as the glam squad instantly thought about the most modern 70’s beauty possible. If you did, you’d be right,” said makeup artist Mary Phillips. “That era of aesthetics is one of my absolute and all-time favorites for various reasons. There’s something so effortlessly aspirational, yet untouchable, about that time period; I’m continually pulling references for ideas from that decade.” The glamsquad enhanced the ‘70s style with stick straight hair and heavy shadow.

“We kept her super chic, completely stunning,” said Phillips. “I have to say, this is one of my favorite looks that we’ve done on Jennifer. We came back together for such a big night, completely inspired and reinvigorated, and I think it shows in her red carpet look tonight. We had so much fun getting ready, it’s always a blast when we’re together.”

One of the secrets behind J.Lo’s skin witchcraft is a clean canvas and bright complexion. Phillips used L’Oreal Bright Reveal Peel Pads across the face, neck, and chest to start off fresh. She gave her a brightening sheen with L’Oreal Revitalift Bright Reveal Day Moisturizer all over the face, and layered several shades of the L’Oreal True Match Lumi Cushion Foundation, giving “the most realistic effect for sexy, healthy, 3-D skin,” says Phillips. “Skin in its natural state is never just one full shade.” She added depth and structure with the L’Oreal Paris Infallible Pro Contour Palette, and used L’Oreal True Match Super-Blendable Blush in Spiced Plum for a pop of color on the apples of the cheeks, and Lancome’s Star Bronzer in Sunswept and Metalique for added bronze.

Phillips used L’Oreal’s La Palette Nude 1 and 2 to create a base, and Lancome’s Color Design Sensational Effects Eye Shadow in Ruby Velvet for color accent, blending with the neutral shades on the top and bottom lids. She added drama to the eye with a thin line of L’Oreal Voluminous Liner Noir along the top lashes, making the line thicker at the outer corners of the eyes. She completed the eye with a hint of L’Oreal Voluminous Superstar Mascara. “We didn’t add too much color to the eye, because we didn’t want to complete in any way with the lip, this mascara gave a perfect hint of depth,” Phillips said.

To frame the face, Phillips gave J.Lo a dimensional brow using light and medium shades of L’Oreal Brow Stylist Designer. “Just as you do with the skin, think of using a few shades in the brow area as your ‘brow contour’. It’s how you get those LUSH ‘model off duty’ brows,” Phillips adds. The look was completed with a glossy nude-pink lip using L’Oreal Colour Riche Lip Liner in Toffee To Be and L’Oreal Infallible Lip Paints in Nude star and Spicy Blush.
