Makeup Artist Recreates One of Her Favorite Paintings, on Her Face
There are people who just like to play around with makeup, and then there are true artists with unmatched talent. One person who fits that “unmatched talent” bill is Haylee Waldrond, better known as Haylee Anise on social media. Her latest work of art includes a painting titled, “Potheads,” that she saw and very nearly duplicated on her face. The finished product is so surreal, it’s hard not to stop and stare.
The 18-year-old makeup artist saw the drawing created by a freelance artist and traveler Alythuh on Instagram, and interpreted the look by using a variety of vibrant colors that popped against her flawless complexion. She shared the look on Twitter, and fans of the final look left comments showing how amazed they were by Anise’s skills. One person wrote, “You’re so decent.” Another quickly chimed in, “Decent? She’s extraordinary.” Since debuting the look, it has already been liked over 7,000 times and received nearly 3,000 re-tweets.

Anise spoke more in-depth to Yahoo Beauty about why that particular work of art spoke to her. “All of Alythuh’s beautiful paintings show women as ethereal creatures such as pixies, nymphs, and other nature-like beings. I have always loved her work,” she says.
It took nearly two hours for Anise to finally get the recreation to her liking but she did it. Starting with the eyes, she used green contacts to mimic the color of the eyes drawn in the painting. Eyebrows were filled in with Anastasia Beverly Hill Dipbrow Pomade in Ebony, and she used a spoolie to accent the brows as well as eyelashes with L.A. Girl Pro Concealer in Highlight. On top of the eyelids, a mix of red and yellow Inglot eyeshadows and matte pigments were used.
“I used tiny detail brushes that are used for nail art to re-create the lemon-colored slices on my eyes,” she says. To get the tiny white dots on her eyelids just right, she used a white liquid eyeliner, and for those ruby red and gold colors down the bridge of her nose, she used two of the same Inglot colors previously mentioned for eyes. For an all over glow, Anise used an array of illuminators and pressed highlighters. To seal the look all together, Milani Amore Matte Lip Cream in Sugar, NYX Cosmetics Lip Suede in Cherry Skies, and a gorgeous overlay of lip gloss were swiped on her lips.
For those looking to try their own hand at this soon-to-be Virginia Commonwealth University student’s masterpiece, she warns, “Something to avoid when attempting this look is stopping yourself from doing a step because it is not considered ‘normal’ – such as the white lashes or red contour. It took me a while to convince myself to put red on and around my nose but when I did, I felt like that was when I really started to become the painting.” She also explained taking it all off isn’t as bad as one would think. “To remove it I used the Urban Decay Meltdown Makeup Dissolving Spray, coconut oil with baby wipes, and the Garnier Micellar Cleansing water – it came off so easily.”
Creating gorgeous makeup looks is more than just a hobby for Anise, and she plans on one day successfully taking her skills to the next level. “In the future, I want makeup and beauty to be my career. All the compliments really encourage me to keep creating looks and eventually be as successful as some of my role models and inspirations.”
The compliments Anise gets are well deserved, and she certainly seems on her way to reaching her goals in the world of makeup artistry. Just take a look at the “Black Lives Matter” inspired look she created below. It further confirms her level of expertise and overall skill.
