The ‘Ultimate 100 Coats of Things Video’ You’ve Been Waiting for Is Finally Here
Most Internet beauty trends are pretty absurd — there are Galaxy freckles, glitter tears, shattered-glass nails, and more — but the latest craze is just too much … literally. Beauty vloggers on YouTube have been posting “100 coats of” videos, where they test the limits of their makeup skills (and skin) by applying 100 layers of their favorite cosmetics. But these specialized videos, which can be traced back to Simply Nailogical’s Cristine Rotenberg, obviously were amateur hour for everyone’s favorite influencer Jenna Marbles, who has combined all of the challenges into one extreme experiment.
“Since day one, I did not come here to play games,” the comedian said in a mocking post. “If I’m gonna do a beauty video, it’s gonna be the epic mealtime of beauty videos.” And that it is. The video consists of a slightly terrified Marbles, who wills everyone to, “Say a prayer for my skin and my lips and my arm and my beauty blender. We’re all gonna die today,” as she takes on 100 coats of foundation, liquid lipstick, nail polish, false lashes (50 pairs on each eye), hairspray, and self tanner.
The video, which went up on Thursday, already has close to 2 million views, and people are loving Marbles’s dedication to the challenge. “This is the Internet that I signed up for,” she said in regards to the ridiculous practice, which she immediately regretted taking part in. After applying just the first coat of spray tan, she said, “I think we all know instantly why no one has done that before. It is a terrible idea.”
Hilarity ensues throughout the 15-minute video, and the final result is just as insane as you can imagine. And while we couldn’t enjoy it more, we just have one question for the YouTube sensation: Was it worth it?
