10 Celebs Who Are Rumored to Be Banned From the Met Gala
Demi Lovato, Donald Trump, Amy Schumer
The Met Gala is one of the most exclusive events of the year, with the guest list tightly controlled by Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour. While scoring an invite is a major get for any A-lister, a few unlucky celebrities have managed to get on Wintour's bad side—and were reportedly barred from fashion's biggest night as a result.
Here's the inside scoop on the celebs who won't be walking the iconic Met steps any time soon.

10 celebs who are rumored to be banned from the Met Gala
Donald Trump
In a 2022 appearance on The Late Late Show, Anna Wintour herself admitted that Donald Trump is persona non grata at her prestigious event. When asked by host James Corden which celebrity she would never invite to the Met Gala, Wintour simply replied: "Donald Trump."
Jameela Jamil
The Good Place actress called out the Met Gala in 2023 for honoring the late designer Karl Lagerfeld. In an Instagram post, she wrote, “Last night Hollywood and fashion said the quiet part out loud when a lot of famous feminists chose to celebrate at the highest level, a man who was so publicly cruel to women, to fat people, to immigrants and to sexual assault survivors,” Jamil wrote. “And all the women’s publications, and spectators online, chose to gleefully ignore it.”
Although it’s unconfirmed if she’s banned, it appears she might be. (And if she isn’t, it also appears she doesn’t care to attend!)
Tim Gunn
The fashion guru revealed in a 2016 Fashion Police episode that he had been "banned" from the Met Gala after sharing an unflattering anecdote about Wintour. "I was asked what is the most unforgettable thing I've ever seen in fashion and I said, 'It's easy. It was watching Anna Wintour being carried down five flights of stairs by two bodyguards,'" Gunn said. "All hell broke loose. It was insane. So, we've had an open war ever since."
While Wintour has never directly confirmed the ban, Gunn hasn't attended the Met Gala since making those controversial comments.
Rachel Zoe
The celeb stylist allegedly got on Wintour's bad side after boasting to the New York Times in 2007 that she was "more influential" than Vogue. This reportedly did not go over well with Wintour—although it’s unclear if she ever officially banned Zoe as a result. If she did, it appears she's since reversed her decision, as Zoe has been seen at the gala in recent years.
Amy Schumer
After her 2016 debut debut, Schumer told Howard Stern she didn't appreciate the "farce" of people pretending to have conversations while "dressed up like a bunch of f---ing assholes." She also vowed it was her "last" time attending the event. She wound up going again in 2017 and 2022, so any ban that befell her was short-lived and presumably lifted.
Tina Fey
The comedian called the gala a "jerk parade" after attending in 2010, saying: "Clearly, I’ll never go again, but you go and it’s this beautiful space and it’s just every jerk from every walk of life is there wearing some stupid thing. You walk up these huge steps…and I went and I dragged my husband along with me too, which I’m still in trouble for.” No word on the funny woman’s official ban, but … come on.

Zayn Malik
After accompanying Gigi Hadid in 2016, Malik told GQ in 2018 he'd "rather be sitting at my house" than dressing up for the gala's "self-indulgent 'look at me' thing." Something tells us he's off the list!
Gwyneth Paltrow
Paltrow called the gala "so hot," "so crowded" and said in 2013: "It seems like it’s the best thing in the world...You always think, Oh my god, it’s gonna be so glamorous and amazing and you’re going to see all these people, and then you get there and it’s so hot and it’s so crowded and everyone’s pushing you. I think we’re all a bit old to dress up punk.”
That said, it appears she hasn’t been officially banned, as she has returned to the gala on other occasions.
Demi Lovato
Lovato had a "terrible experience" at their 2016 gala, telling Billboard that one celeb was "a complete bitch" in the "cliquey" environment.
She added that she went straight to an AA meeting after. “I changed my clothes, but I still had my diamonds on—millions of dollars of diamonds on in an AA meeting. And I related more to the homeless people in that meeting who struggled with the same struggles that I deal with than the people at the Met Gala—fake and sucking the fashion industry’s dick.”
So… not sure if she’s banned, but it sounds like she’s not headed back.
Lili Reinhart
After criticizing Kim Kardashian's weight loss for the 2022 gala, Reinhart admitted: "I don't think I'll be invited back."
In her Instagram Stories in the days after the event, Reinhart wrote, “To openly admit to starving yourself for the sake of the Met Gala. When you know very well that millions of young men and women are looking up to you and listening to your every word. The ignorance is otherworldly disgusting.” “Please stop supporting these stupid, harmful celebrities whose entire image revolves around their bodies. I am not generally an angry person but I swear to god, the toxicity of this industry sometimes really gets to me,” she added.
Later, the actress told W Magazine, that the event “Was fun, but after going again this year, I don’t think I’ll be invited back...I said a certain something about a certain person in a certain dress.”
