Jacob Elordi Said Filming The Party Scene On "Euphoria" Began To Feel Like "Hell," Plus 15 Other BTS Facts

From the jump, this season is already geared to be more dramatic, more violent, and more intense.
There's always been a lot of talk around the unique artistic direction the show takes in filming, but even more so in Season 2. In light of that, here are 16 behind-the-scenes facts about Euphoria Season 2.
1.Season 2 was shot entirely on film. Euphoria cinematographer Marcell Rév said Kodak had to resurrect a specific type of film for the show.
"There’s a stock called Ektachrome, which Kodak stopped manufacturing in 35mm in the 2000s I think, and we convinced Kodak to manufacture a couple thousand rolls for us," he told The Wrap. "I think it captures skin tones better than anything and that’s really important, especially with a piece like this."
2.In fact, to create that snapshot effect, they used a spotlight to film the party scene.
According to Euphoria creator Sam Levinson, in the Season 2 premiere episode, a giant spotlight was used that would just "flash" for a second to create the effect of snapshots from the party. "It's almost as if you're going back and looking at photos," he said.
3.The now iconic scene where Fez beats up Nate and smashes his head with a bottle was real (to an extent). Angus Cloud (Fez) was given a bottle "made out of sugar" and actually shattered it over Jacob Elordi's head.
4.Sydney Sweeney said the bathroom scene was "terrifying" to shoot.
In the Season 2 premiere, we watch as Nate and Cassie hook up at a party while Maddy is banging on the bathroom door. According to Sydney, Alexa was apparently pretty convincing as an angry Maddy, which made the whole scene very suspenseful. “Alexa was on the other side of the door banging the entire time and I was just like, ‘Oh my god, if I was actually in this situation, I would be freaking out,'” she told Decider. “So Cassie was freaking out.”

In the Season 2 opener, Cassie is trapped in a bathroom hiding from Maddy and pulls the shower curtain aside to see a man sitting, fully nude, on the toilet. According to the penis's owner, Ansel Pierce, that was indeed his own apendage. "Yes, that is me, in the bathroom, not a prosthetic," Ansel told TikTok.
6.Angus Cloud was cast as Fez after an agent saw him walking down the street and asked him to read for the part.
In 2018, Angus was walking down a street in Manhattan when he was stopped by a woman who said she worked for a casting company. "I was confused and didn't want to give her my phone number," he told GQ in 2019. Shortly after, he was given the script for the pilot and changed the lines slightly in his audition to "make it sound real." Next thing he knew, he was on a flight to Los Angeles to shoot Euphoria.
7.Jacob Elordi said he started to get "phantom pain" from shooting those scenes with his head in a cast.
"The coolest thing about the prosthetic was the nurse could actually put real stitches through it," he said. "And I think by the end, we'd done it so much that I started to get like phantom pain. Like, I'd see myself in the mirror and start to think that maybe my head was actually hurting."
8.The Season 2 makeup is meant to be Season 1's "more introverted sister."
According to Euphoria's makeup artist Doniella Davy, the characters traded in their flashy glam looks for subtler, more meaningful looks this season that will represent the struggles they each currently face. The softer, pink/peachy tones Cassie wears this season "are framed by this delicate, like innocent, twinkle," Doniella told Refinery29. Whereas, Maddy's dark, winged eyeliner (that took three people to paint on) makes a different point: "A Maddy wing is always THE sharpest wing. Sharp like a knife to cut through whatever stands in her way," Doniella said. Alexa was also heavily involved in Maddy's makeup looks. "She came into the makeup trailer with established and well thought out ideas for her looks, with her own character backstories."
9.Newcomer Dominic Fike (Elliot) had never acted prior to Euphoria.
10.Other newcomer, Faye, played by Chloe Cherry, is a real-life porn star.
11.Tom Holland visited the Season 2 set "at least 30 times."
12.The actor who plays young Ashtray is Javon Walton's real-life younger brother.
13.Sydney Sweeney said Sam Levinson called her to ask about the Cassie/Nate storyline.
14.Drake showed up to the Season 2 table read and stayed for three hours.
According to Storm Reid (Gia), Drake was "feeling all the emotion" at the Season 2 table read. "I mean, he's Drake. He doesn't really have to pay attention in the table read, and he did," she said. "I was kind of like looking at him to see if he was actually paying attention and turning his pages, and you could tell he was feeling all the emotion. I was like, 'OK, Drake.'"
Drake has been an executive producer on Euphoria since 2019.
15.The New Year's Eve party scene was shot all night for over a week.
"We shot all night," Maude Apatow (Lexi) told Thrillist. "So we would start at 6 p.m. and go until whenever the sun would rise — 5 a.m. — and we were so tired! There were certain days, or at least for a couple hours at a time, where we would all be hanging out in the green room together, and it would feel fun, like we're all hang out, but mostly we were all just trying to nap."
Jacob Elordi said shooting the party scene very quickly began to feel like "hell."
"They do a really good job of creating the scale, though, when the cameras are moving through the rooms of hundreds of people," he said. "The thing is, we do it for so long. We shot that party for over a week, so very quickly it's like being in hell. It's like being in a party that you don't want to be in. At all."
16.That Kat fantasy scene is the second episode was meant to be a commentary on the world of social media.
"It became a funny way of addressing the suffocating nature of social media," said Euphoria creator Sam Levinson. "I feel like everyone's always giving advice to no one who's asking for it."
