2024 Kokomo Park Band season begins Wednesday

Jun. 4—Free weekly concerts are returning to the stage in Highland Park.

The Kokomo Park Band's 2024 Summer Concert season will begin at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.

The first show of the season is titled "June, the Gateway to Summer" and will feature saxophonist Neil Broeker and the Park Band's traditional jazz outfit, the Retired Rum Runners.

Broeker will perform "Oblivion" by Argentine tango composer Astor Piazzolla and the Rum Runners will play "The Original Dixieland Concerto" by Johnny Warrinton.

Other tunes in the program include "Suncoast Carnival" by David Shaffer; "Fairest of the Fair" by John Phillip Sousa; "As Summer Was Just Beginning" by Larry Daehn; "Relax" by Paul Yoder; "A Walk in the Morning Sun" by Pierre LaPlante; "Summertime" by George Gershwin; and "Themes Like Old Times" by Warren Barker.

The Serving in Love Team of Morning Star Church will provide popcorn and beverages at the concert.

If it rains, the show will be moved to Kokomo High School's auditorium, 2501 S. Berkley Road.
