Oscar nominees ‘Dune,’ ‘Wicked,’ ‘Wild Robot,’ and ‘Emilia Pérez’ all win at 2025 MPSE Golden Reel Awards: Full list of winners
On Sunday, the Motion Picture Sound Editors announced the winners of the MPSE Golden Reel Awards, and four of the five Oscar nominees for Best Sound came away victorious: Dune: Part Two, Emilia Pérez, Wicked, and The Wild Robot. The fifth Oscar nominee, A Complete Unknown, had two Golden Reel nominations, but didn't win.
Dune claimed top honors for effects/foley. Wicked was awarded for music editing. The Wild Robot had the best sound editing for animation. And Emilia Pérez won the award for international features. Surprisingly, the dialogue/ADR prize went to Saturday Night, which ranked fifth in Gold Derby's odds, with only one user predicting that result.

A Complete Unknown may have been the odd movie out at the Golden Reels, but it did win the CAS Award for its sound mixing, while Dune claimed the BAFTA Award for its sound. Every single Best Sound nominee at the Oscars was awarded by at least one of the key industry peer groups.
So what do the Golden Reel winners mean for Oscars? Last year, Oppenheimer won the prizes for both dialogue and sound effects here before losing Best Sound to The Zone of Interest at the Oscars. In the two years prior, Top Gun: Maverick and Dune took the Golden Reel for sound effects before prevailing at the Academy Awards. And in 2021, Sound of Metal still won at the Oscars despite losing all three of its races at the MPSE Awards.
Television shows awarded by the MPSE Golden Reel Awards included Shōgun, Ripley, The Penguin, and Only Murders in the Building.
