7 Hilarious Jimmy Kimmel Moments to Get You Pumped For the Emmys
A seasoned awards show emcee and late night talk show host, Jimmy Kimmel will surely make the 2016 Emmy Awards a side-splitting affair.
It'll be the Jimmy Kimmel Live! star's second time at the helm of the annual television honors since his 2012 debut, and the latest in a long list of hosting gigs that have proved he's one of the best masters of ceremony in Hollywood.
While we wait to see what Kimmel has in store for Sunday's big show, we're holding ourselves over with a look back at some of his best hosting moments ever, from awards shows and black tie dinners to his own late-night laugh-fests.
1. The Kimmel School of Perfect Acting
During his post-Oscars special in 2015, Kimmel gave the world a peek at his exclusive acting academy, The Kimmel School of Perfect Acting. A-list students including Eddie Redmayne, Lupita Nyong'o, Benedict Cumberbatch and Susan Sarandon were interviewed for the two-part series about their scholarship under the "master."
Kimmel's unorthodox methods involved whacking Sean Penn with a pool noodle, making Jennifer Aniston throw herself onto a floor and forcing Gary Oldman to perform in a giant paper bag.
2. White House Correspondents' Association Dinner
Kimmel didn't disappoint when he was tasked with roasting the most elite figures in politics, journalism and entertainment as host of the 2012 White House Correspondents' Association Dinner. His nearly half-hour long set at the podium took digs at everyone from President Obama ("I know you won't be able to laugh at my jokes about the Secret Service. Please cover your ears, if that's physically possible") to Chris Christie ("I think you're misunderstanding New Jersey's slogan. It's not the Olive Garden state.").
3. Auditioning for every Matt Damon role
In a 2013 episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Matt Damon finally revealed the origins of his longstanding feud with the host (more on that later). As it turns out, Kimmel had lost out to Matt Damon for every role of the actor's career, and there were audition tapes to prove it.
4. The Handsome Men's Club
Kimmel's 2010 after-Oscars special gave us homely mortals an unprecedented look inside The Handsome Men's Club. Finally, we got to see the inner workings of the society – which included members Rob Lowe, Matthew McConaughey and Patrick Dempsey – from their mirror rituals to their voting procedures.
Unfortunately for Kimmel, The Handsome Men's Club turned against him at this particular gathering, and he was forced to fight for his place at the conference table.
5. The 2012 Emmy Awards opening
In a taped segment that kicked off the show, Kimmel overcame his pre-Emmys anxiety with the help of TV veterans like Mindy Kaling, Connie Britton, Christina Hendricks and Kathy Bates, who punched his face back to normal after an ill-advised Botox treatment.
6. F---ing Ben Affleck
After his then-girlfriend Sarah Silverman "revealed" that she was having intimate relations with his arch-nemesis Matt Damon in 2009, Kimmel got his revenge on the pair with a little help from a certain Hollywood hunk – and a star-studded chorus.
7. The 2012 Emmys monologue
Kimmel drew lots of laughs during his short and sweet opening routine at the 2012 awards, taking jabs at chronically snubbed Jon Hamm, then-presidential candidate Mitt Romney and Hollywood's self-indulgence as a whole.
There's no doubt the comedian will have a lot of material to work with at his sophomore appearance as host, and we're expecting yet another impressive opening bit.
The 68th Primetime Emmy Awards will air live from the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles Sunday on ABC.
