A$AP Rocky is found guilty but will not serve jail time
A$AP Rocky was found guilty of assault on Wednesday but will not serve any more jail time, according to reports.
The rapper was given a conditional sentence after the court found that the assault was not "of such a serious nature,” NBC News reports.
Rocky, born Rakim Mayers, was arrested last month, following a June 30 altercation on the streets of Stockholm, where he was on tour. On July 3, the rapper was taken into custody, although he’s maintained that he and his associates, who were also arrested, were being followed and harassed by the alleged victim before their fight.
He released a statement saying he was “disappointed” in the verdict.
While Rocky was imprisoned, celebrities including Post Malone and Sean “Diddy” Combs, offered support on social media. Fans petitioned for his release, while politicians called for the same. Kim Kardashian and Kanye West reached out to President Trump via his son-in-law Jared Kushner, and Trump himself eventually offered to “vouch” for the artist.
Rocky was tried last month, then released while the verdict was being decided. He arrived back in Los Angeles on Aug. 2. He attended Kanye West’s invitation-only Sunday Service on Aug. 4 and, this past weekend, performed at the Real Street Festival in Anaheim, Calif. While he was onstage, the crowd reportedly chanted “F*** Sweden.”
“I’m so happy to be here right now y’all can’t even understand it,” the 30-year-old said from the stage. “I’m so happy to be here right now. That was a scary humbling experience but I’m here right now. God is good.”
