While stars like Timothée Chalamet, Adrien Brody and Colman Domingo wore their Academy Awards finest on Sunday night, Adam Sandler showed up in his most laid-back look.

The actor-comedian paired a $175 neon blue logo hoodie by LA-based label Aviator Nation with a Hawaiian shirt and black and blue basketball shorts. The non-black-tie outfit prompted host Conan O’Brien to call the comedian out from the Oscars stage, saying he was “dressed like a guy playing video poker at 2 a.m.”
“Nobody even thought about what I was wearing until you brought it up,” Sandler yelled back. “You know what, Conan? I like the way I look because I am a good person. I don’t care about what I wear or what I don’t wear. My snazzy gym shorts and fluffy sweatshirt offended you so much that you had to mock me in front of my peers.”

The Happy Gilmore actor then announced his departure from the Dolby Theatre, but not before going up to A Complete Unknown‘s leading man and screaming “Chalamet!” into his ear. He then encouraged the starry crowd to join him for “a game of five-on-five basketball” after the ceremony.
Although the exact style seen on Sandler is nearly sold out, the brand offers plenty of other star-worthy hoodies in similar designs — like this $175 pullover — online at aviatornation.com and at retailers such as Bloomingdale’s, Nordstrom and Revolve.
The Hollywood Reporter reached out to Aviator Nation for more on their starry cameo on Hollywood’s biggest night. Turns out that Sandler is a fan of the Venice-born brand and a regular shopper at its Malibu boutique, and his Oscars fashion moment was completely unexpected, a spokesperson for the clothing company explains.
“Adam is such a brand loyalist and we love sending him product but we didn’t gift him specifically for the Oscars,” the brand says. “The entire team was so stoked (and surprised!) to see him in our hoodie at the ceremony — his bit with Conan was pure joy! We love that Adam is a huge fan of the brand (almost as big of a fan as we are of him!) and that he’s always popping into our stores to pick up new gear for himself and his awesome family. Aviator Nation is Team Sandler.”
Aviator Nation was founded in 2006 by Paige Mycoskie — sister of TOMS founder Blake Mycoskie — and is known for its super-soft sweaters and sweatpants in vibrant colors. The label was quick to react to its Oscars moment and even updated its website’s homepage banner with a call out to its “fluffy sweaters.”
Lady Gaga, Robert Downey Jr., Jennifer Aniston, Reese Witherspoon, Matthew McConaughey and Zac Efron are just a few stars who have worn Aviator Nation. Below, watch Sandler and O’Brien’s full exchange and shop similar hoodies from the brand.
