Adele Shares She Taking a Break From Music: See What She Said in New Interview

You can’t help but sing certain songs at the top of your lungs, and that’s certainly true for Adele. However, it might be a bit before you hear a new power ballad on the radio. In a recent interview with the German outlet, ZDF, Adele revealed she will be taking a break from music. Keep reading to see what she said and what her plans for the future look like.

Adele is taking a break from music

Adele recently revealed to ZDF that she will be taking a break from her singing career. “I don’t have any plans for new music, at all,” she said during the interview. “I want a big break after this and I think I want to do other creative things, just for a little while.”

This comes ahead of her residency at Munich Messe where she’ll be playing shows throughout August. The arena is an open-air environment and was created exclusively for her shows. It can hold up to 80,000 people per night and features a combination of seated and standing areas.

During the interview, the singer/songwriter also shared her reasons for taking a break and how she wants an escape from the spotlight.

“I miss everything about before I was famous, I think probably being anonymous the most,” she said. “I don’t like being famous. I love that I get to make music all the time whenever I want and people are receptive to it and like it, because that’s pretty unimaginable… that never happens to people.” She also mentioned how unique it is that people are interested in her voice and songs, but that it’s important to find a balance.

“Weekends with Adele,” the singer’s residency in Las Vegas, was originally supposed to run in the beginning of 2022, but was postponed until November of that year. It ran until March of 2023 at the Colosseum at Caesars Palace.

The residency was going to end until Adele decided to extend it during the final show in 2023. She also said there would be a film so that anyone who wanted to see it could even if they weren’t in attendance.

In October of 2023, she decided to surprise fans once more with a final extension of shows that started in January of 2024 and would go until June. Some of the March shows got canceled, so those will be in October and November of 2024.

She’ll be finishing up the last leg of the residency dubbed "Weekends with Adele: The Final Shows" and will start her indefinite break afterward. The residency has been a resounding success for the British superstar, and has allowed her to rule over Sin City for months.

Adele hasn’t released new music in a while

If you’re a fan of the singer, you may have noticed it’s already been a while since she’s shared new music. Her most recent album, 30, was released in 2021 and came out five years after her third. Her other two albums, 19 and 21, were released in 2008 and 2011.

Besides her residencies, Adele hasn’t been in the public eye too often in the past few years. Her primetime special, Adele: One Night Only, aired on CBS in 2021, where she performed and shared music in anticipation of 30.
