New Adventures of Old Christine was a hit comedy series that graced television screens from 2006 to 2010, offering viewers a blend of humor, wit, and relatable moments. Created by Kari Lizer, the show garnered a dedicated fan base and critical acclaim for its clever writing, memorable characters, and stellar performances by its talented cast.
New Adventures of Old Christine revolves around the life of Christine Campbell, portrayed by Julia Louis-Dreyfus, a divorced single mother navigating the ups and downs of life in Los Angeles. Christine juggles the challenges of co-parenting with her ex-husband Richard (Clark Gregg), and his girlfriend “new” Christine (Emily Rutherfurd), hence that’s why Louis-Dreyfus character is “old” Christine. Add to the mix old Christine’s quirky brother Matthew (Hamish Linklater) and her best friend, coworker and emotional anchor Barb (Wanda Sykes) and you’re got all the makings of a hit show.
The series humorously explores themes of friendship, family, and self-discovery as old Christine navigates the chaotic yet endearing aspects of her life.

Julia Louis-Dreyfus as Christine Campbell (aka “old” Christine)
Christine Campbell, aka old Christine, is a neurotic, but lovable single mother trying to rebuild her life after her divorce. With her impeccable comedic timing and versatile acting skills, Julia Louis-Dreyfus is perfectly cast in the role.
Prior to this show, Louis-Dreyfus was of course one of the stars of the most popular shows in the ‘90s, playing Elaine Benes on Seinfeld (who could forget her famous dance). Her career started even before that, appearing in Saturday Night Live in the ‘80s.
After playing the role of old Christine, Louis-Dreyfus continued her success by landing the lead in the critically acclaimed political satire Veep, earning numerous awards for her portrayal of Selina Meyer.
But she’s not just a TV star, Louis-Dreyfus has been in many films including Hannah and Her Sisters (1986), National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation (1989), Deconstructing Harry (1997), Enough Said (2013), Downhill (2020), You People (2023), and You Hurt My Feelings (2023). Her voice acting work includes A Bug's Life (1998), Planes (2013), and Onward (2020). Since 2021 she has played Valentina Allegra de Fontaine in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Did you know? Louis-Dreyfus is married to Saturday Night Live comedian Brad Hall. They’ve been married since 1987 and have two sons together, one is an actor and the other is a singer-songwriter.
Clark Gregg as Richard Campbell
Richard Campbell is Christine's amiable yet sometimes clueless ex-husband who often finds himself entangled in old Christine's misadventures. The character is played by Clark Gregg, who was previously known (and loved) for his role as FBI Special Agent Mike Casper on the NBC political drama The West Wing.
Gregg is also known for his voice work, playing the role of character Phil Coulson in films and television series set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe from 2008 to 2021. Gregg’s voice was in the animated television series Ultimate Spider-Man (2012–2017) and the video games Lego Marvel Super Heroes (2013), Marvel Heroes (2013), and Lego Marvel's Avengers (2016).
Gregg has also appeared in over a dozen movies including One Hour Photo (2002), We Were Soldiers (2002), In Good Company (2004), When a Stranger Calls (2006), 500 Days of Summer (2009), Much Ado About Nothing (2012), The To Do List (2013), Labor Day (2013), and Live by Night (2016).
Gregg was very busy in 2023, appearing in several TV series including Florida Man, How I Met Your Father and the Netflix series Painkiller playing the role of Arthur Sackler Senior. In 2024, he appeared in the movie Thelma and had a guest appearance in the TV series Will Trent.

Hamish Linklater as Matthew Kimble
Matthew Kimble was Christine's endearing, yet socially awkward brother who provides comedic relief with his eccentric behavior and quirky personality. Played by the actor Hamish Linklater, the sibling chemistry between Linklater and Louis-Dreyfus was playful and funny.
Linklater appeared in both movies and TV shows. He played the role of Andrew Keanelly in The Crazy Ones, and Clark Debussy in Legion. In 2021, he starred as Father Paul in the horror miniseries Midnight Mass, for which he received high critical acclaim. Most recently he was in 2024’s Manhunt TV series playing the role of Abraham Lincoln.
Wanda Sykes as Barbara 'Barb' Baran
Barbara 'Barb' Baran, Christine's outspoken and sassy best friend who often provides comedic relief and serves as Christine's confidante is played by Wanda Sykes.
Sykes started out as a stand-up comedian and TV writer, gaining critical acclaim for her work on The Chris Rock Show, for which she won an Emmy. She then moved in front of the camera appearing in both movies and TV shows.
She was a regular on HBO's Curb Your Enthusiasm as well as ABC’s Black-ish and Amazon's The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. She also starred in the Netflix series The Upshaws, and the HBO Max comedy series The Other Two.
On the movie front, we loved her opposite Jennifer Lopez in Monster-in-Law (2005), and she was also in My Super Ex-Girlfriend (2006), Evan Almighty (2007), and License to Wed (2007). She also did plenty of voice work in animated films including Rio (2011), the Ice Age franchise (2012–2016), and UglyDolls (2019).
Most recently Sykes had voice roles in the animated series Velma and Star Wars: The Bad Batch.
Emily Rutherfurd as Christine Hunter, aka “new” Christine
The role of the glamorous Christine Hunter, who is the girlfriend of “old” Christine’s ex-husband (did you get that), is played by Emily Rutherfurd.
Prior to her role in the New Adventures of Old Christine cast, Rutherfurdwas in the TV series Work with Me (1999-2000) and played Catherine Richmond in The Ellen Show. She also starred as Mary Kelly in the show Married to the Kellys and appeared in Will and Grace. Then she landed her career defining role in New Adventures of Old Christine cast.
After the show, she had guest appearances in several shows including Grey’s Anatomy and Veep.

Trevor Gagnon as Ritchie Campbell
We all remember little Ritchie Campbell, Christine and Richard's sweet and precocious son who often serves as the voice of reason amidst the chaos of his parents' lives. Ritchie was played by the actor Trevor Gagnon.
Prior to his role on New Adventures of Old Christine cast, Gagnon had parts in several movies including Big Fish, Loggerheads, and Southern Belles. He also had guest appearances on TV shows including Desperate Housewives. While on the show New Adventures of Old Christine, he also did voice work for animated shows including Happy Monster Band and Fly Me to the Moon 3D.
