Ahsoka Recap: A Fan Favorite Makes His Long-Awaited Appearance
As Ahsoka, Sabine and Huyang rushed to stop Imperial loyalist Morgan Elsbeth from retrieving Thrawn from deep space, this week’s episode of Ahsoka saw the welcome return of a fan-favorite character.
Picking up where we left off, Huyang worked to restore coms after the T-6 took on extensive damage during last week’s space battle, meaning our heroes were stuck in the red forest on Seatos with no connection to the outside world. In the meantime, Ahsoka and Sabine ventured to find the enemy’s ground base in the hopes of preventing Elsbeth from using the star map.

Elsewhere, Hera disobeyed a direct order and opted to instead fly out and help Ahsoka. The Twi’lek general was accompanied by her son Jacen, grumpy droid Chopper and a small squadron that included human captain Carson Teva (Paul Sun-Hyung Lee), who appeared in Season 2 and 3 episodes of The Mandalorian. Teva addressing Hera as Phoenix Leader was a reference to her role heading up the elite starfighter crew known as the Phoenix Squadron, comprised of skilled pilots who fought for the rebellion against the Galactic Empire.
Back on Seatos, Ahsoka squared up against Marrok while Sabine went for Round 2 with Shin, who previously drove a lightsaber through the Mandalorian’s gut. Ahsoka sliced through Marrok’s chest with one of her white lightsabers, effectively killing the mercenary, and took off to retrieve the star map from Baylan.
Ahsoka caught up with the ex-Jedi Knight, who remarked that “Anakin spoke highly of you.” Baylan stood 10 toes deep in his belief that siding with Thrawn and starting a new war was necessary in order to secure the future. “One must destroy in order to create,” he said.
The former Jedi warriors engaged in one-on-one combat while Sabine continued her fight against Shin in the forrest. While on the ground, Sabine looked to be making a failed attempt to use the Force, only to fire off two small missiles from her gauntlet in true Mandalorian fashion. Shin, a wielder of the Force, blocked the explosive projectiles and used one of her own as a distraction to escape.
Ahsoka retrieved the star map but was quickly cornered by Baylan at the edge of a cliff. She used the Force to knock Shin against a rock (rendering the mercenary unconscious) but was then sent tumbling off the cliff by Baylan — her fate unknown. A distraught Sabine then prepared to face Baylan herself.
Rather than duel, however, Baylan threw out a tempting offer: make the hyperspace jump with him and be reunited with her long-lost friend Ezra. As a sweetener, he promised that no harm would come to her if she handed over the egg containing the map. Sabine, understanding that this was her one chance to find her friend, gave it to him.
With the coordinates to Thrawn’s location locked in, Elsbeth prepared to trek into deep space accompanied by Baylan, Shin and Sabine in handcuffs. Hera and her squadron arrived just in time to watch the Eye of Sion — the giant ring capable of astonishing hyperspace travel — disappear. In the process, the device let out a power surge so strong that it sent several starfighters crashing into each other. Teva was among the survivors.
Jacen, son of Jedi Knight Kanan Jarrus, remarked that he had a “bad feeling.”
We then returned to Ahsoka, who woke up on a watery bridge in the World Between Worlds (previously depicted on the animated Star Wars Rebels). She then heard the voice of her former master Anakin Skywalker, played by guest star Hayden Christensen. (Note: Christensen previously appeared as both Anakin and Darth Vader in the live-action Disney+ series Obi-Wan Kenobi).
“Hello, Snips,” he called out, using that memorable nickname for his Padawan. “I didn’t expect to see you so soon.”
She turned around to see him standing right in front of her, bearing that familiar coy smile.
“Anakin,” Ahsoka said.
And with that, we’re in our feelings over hearing that nickname, which helped define their relationship in the animated series Star Wars: The Clone Wars. Do you think we’ll get to hear Ahsoka call him “SkyGuy” once more?
How did you feel about this week’s episode of Ahsoka? Were you surprised to see Hayden Christensen appear as Anakin so soon? Sound off below!
