The recently released trailer has generated significant buzz, giving audiences a taste of what to expect. As the cast and crew actively promote the film, fans are curious about Sarfira’s real story and its origins.

Sudha Kongara-directed Sarfira is produced under the joint banners of Abundantia Entertainment, 2D Entertainment, and Cape of Good Films. Alongside Akshay Kumar, the film stars Paresh Rawal, Radhika Madan, Seema Biswas, R. Sarath Kumar, Saurabh Goyal, and Krishnakumar Balasubramanian.

Sarfira is the official Hindi remake of the 2020 Tamil film Soorarai Pottru, which stars Suriya. The original film received widespread acclaim for its gripping storyline and powerful performances. Moreover, the makers have mentioned that Sarfira draws inspiration from the book Simply Fly: A Deccan Odyssey by Captain G.R. Gopinath.

Sarfira true story: Is it based on Captain GR Gopinath?

Sarfira depicts the incredible true events of the life of Captain G.R. Gopinath, hailed as the father of Low-Cost Carriers (LCC) in India. Born on November 13, 1951, in a small village in Karnataka, Gopinath’s journey is nothing short of remarkable. After graduating from the Indian Military Academy, he fought in the Bangladesh Liberation War in 1971. However, he took early retirement from the Indian Army at the age of 28.

Post-retirement, Gopinath tried several businesses, including dairy farming, hotel ownership, and bike dealerships. However, he found significant success as an aviation entrepreneur. With a vision to make air travel affordable for every Indian, he founded Air Deccan in 2003. This was India’s first low-cost airline, offering tickets at half the price of other airlines. Gopinath’s innovative approach quickly garnered a substantial customer base.

Despite its initial success, Air Deccan faced financial challenges, leading Gopinath to sell the company to Vijay Mallya in 2007. Air Deccan later merged with Kingfisher Airlines. In 2011, Gopinath described his experiences and the journey of Air Deccan in his book, Simply Fly: A Deccan Odyssey.

As Sarfira depicts this inspirational tale of determination and perseverance, how it will perform at the box office remains to be seen. Stay tuned for more updates.
