From his early days romancing fellow actresses like Jill Clayburgh and Diane Keaton, to his later liaisons with the likes of Beverly D’Angelo and Meital Dohan, Al Pacino’s dating history has seen its fair share of Hollywood flames. But let’s also not forget his current girlfriend, who, well…let’s just say she was born closer to the release date of The Godfather Part III than Part I.
Despite his numerous high-profile relationships, Al’s never quite made it down the aisle. As he quipped to the Boston Herald in 2015, “Of course, it’s possible [I’ll get married]. It seems beside the point though. I have no idea, but I never say never.”
So, while we may never hear wedding bells, we can certainly take a look back at the romantic journey that’s led Al Pacino to this point—where he’s still finding love well into his 80s!
Meet Al Pacino’s girlfriend and his past loves
Al Pacino’s heart seems to have as much range as his acting skills. Come along as we uncover all the ladies who have captured the attention of this legendary actor over the years.
Jill Clayburgh (1967-1975)
Jill Clayburgh, an accomplished actress in her own right, was one of Pacino’s earliest significant relationships. The pair met while both were up-and-coming actors in New York City’s theater scene. Their romance blossomed as they pursued their craft together, sharing the stage and their lives for nearly eight years until their split in 1975.
In a 1978 interview with The Washington Post, Clayburgh opened up about their breakup. “I went through it all. Self-loathing, loathing him, pain, anger, fear,” she shared. She attributed their split partly to Pacino’s skyrocketing fame following The Godfather. Despite the heartbreak, Clayburgh revealed she and Pacino were still on good terms. “We’re still friends; we see each other now and then,” she told the Post at the time.
Marthe Keller (1976-1978)
Swiss actress Marthe Keller caught Pacino’s eye when they co-starred in the 1977 film Bobby Deerfield. Their on-screen chemistry translated into a real-life romance that lasted for about two years. Director Sydney Pollack told People in 1977, “We didn’t know if they would end up loving or hating each other,” hinting at the intensity of their relationship.
Keller, known for her privacy, offered only a glimpse into their bond during the same interview with People. “What I feel about Al belongs to me,” she shared with the outlet. “Talking about us seems like playing a striptease with my soul.”
Diane Keaton (1974-1991)
Perhaps one of Pacino’s most famous relationships was with actress Diane Keaton. The two first met while working on The Godfather in 1971. “For me, the Godfathers, all three of them, were about one thing—Al. It was as simple as that,” Keaton wrote in her memoir, Then Again, per The New York Times. While their romantic involvement didn’t begin until several years after the first film, their on-again, off-again relationship would end up spanning nearly two decades, with the couple reuniting multiple times over the years.
Keaton’s fondness for Pacino was evident even in the years after their final split. In a 2017 interview, she revealed just how crazy she was about him. “I was mad for him. Charming, hilarious, a nonstop talker,” she told People at the time. “There was an aspect of him that was like a lost orphan, like this kind of crazy idiot savant. And oh, gorgeous!” Despite the love she had for him, however, it seemed Pacino couldn’t give her the one thing she wanted: marriage. Ultimately, it led to the end of their love story.
Jan Tarrant (1988-1989)
Jan Tarrant, an acting coach, had a brief but important relationship with Pacino in the late 1980s. While their romance was relatively short-lived, it resulted in Pacino becoming a father for the first time. In 1989, Tarrant gave birth to their daughter, Julie Marie Pacino.
Though Pacino and Tarrant’s romantic relationship didn’t last, they remained committed co-parents to their daughter. Julie Marie has since followed in her father’s footsteps, pursuing a career in the film industry as a producer and director.
Lyndall Hobbs (1990-1997)
Australian film director Lyndall Hobbs entered Pacino’s life in the early ’80s, but it wasn’t until the ’90s that the couple ended up having a seven-year relationship. In an article published in the Sydney Morning Herald, Hobbs revealed she met Pacino at a party in LA in 1982. At the time, she was still dating someone else. But a few months later, she moved to New York and started dating the actor. “Al and I spent a few months together but he wasn’t a huge amount of fun,” she wrote. “He was shy and neurotic. It ended and I went to live in LA. We didn’t see each other for six years.”
However, the pair eventually reconnected in 1989. “He was more cheerful this time around. I was outgoing and extroverted and he became more of an extrovert,” Hobbs told the Herald. In her memoir, The Girl From Oz, Hobbs vividly recalled this new beginning in their romance. “My stomach lurched with a rush of romance-induced adrenaline and I felt positively giddy,” she wrote.
According to Hobbs, the pair even thought of having children together. “We tried to adopt a baby girl called Adelaide while we were together, but the mother changed her mind and wanted her back,” she told the Herald.
However, their relationship wasn’t without its challenges. “Al was quite tricky, obviously, and there’s a reason he’s never married. I was strong and quite difficult in my own way too,” she told the Evening Standard, explaining why, despite their many years together, marriage wasn’t in the cards.
Penelope Ann Miller (1993-1994)
Penelope Ann Miller and Al Pacino had an affair that began on the set of Carlito’s Way in 1993. Their relationship, while brief, was intense and passionate. Miller was open about their connection, telling People in 1993, “It’s not a secret and I’m not ashamed of it. Al is a very passionate person, and he brought out a certain womanliness, a sexuality, a passion in me. I think I always knew I had it in me, but he brought out a real fire.”
Despite their obvious chemistry, the couple tried to keep things professional on set. “We really wanted to keep the relationship discreet for the sake of the movie,” Miller explained.
Beverly D’Angelo (1997-2003)
Beverly D’Angelo, best known for her role in the National Lampoon’s Vacation series, had a significant relationship with Pacino that lasted for six years. The couple never married but welcomed twins, Anton James and Olivia Rose, in 2001 when Pacino was 61 years old.
D’Angelo later opened up about the beginning of their relationship on Instagram in May 2023, revealing the met on a flight to New York City in 1996. “He was seated in front of me, he said ‘come up and sit beside me,’ and by the time the plane landed, it was on.”
She also recalled Pacino’s early commitment to their relationship, writing, “In 1997, he looked me in the eye and said ‘I want you to be the mother of my children,’ and although I’d avoided that role my whole life, I was deeply in love and I was 100 percent in.”
Despite their eventual split, D’Angelo continues to honor their ongoing connection as co-parents. In March 2023, she acknowledged, “the power of our love for our children was the basis for resolving our conflicts and creating a new history as co-parents.”
Lucila Solá (2008-2018)
Argentinian actress Lucila Solá and Al Pacino had a long-term relationship that spanned nearly a decade. Despite their 39-year age difference, the couple seemed to have a strong connection. Solá, mother to actress and model Camila Morrone (a.k.a. Leonardo DiCaprio’s ex-girlfriend) was often seen accompanying Pacino to red carpet events and award shows.
Their relationship, while lasting many years, eventually came to an end in 2018. The reasons for their split were never publicly disclosed, but both have spoken fondly of each other throughout the years.
Meital Dohan (2018-2020)
Israeli actress Meital Dohan and Al Pacino’s relationship began in 2018, shortly after his split from Lucila Solá. Their romance raised eyebrows due to their 39-year age gap, but the couple seemed happy together, often appearing at public events arm-in-arm.
However, their relationship was relatively short-lived. In 2020, Dohan confirmed their split, citing the age difference as a factor. In an interview with Israel’s La’Isha magazine, she shared, “It’s hard to be with a man so old, even Al Pacino. The age gap is difficult, yes. I tried to deny it, but now he is already an elderly man, to be honest. So even with all my love, it didn’t last.”
Despite the breakup, Dohan expressed her appreciation for their time together. “I had a fight with him and left him recently, but of course I really love and appreciate him, and I was glad to be there for him when he needed me, and to be a part of his legacy,” she added. “It’s an honor for me. I’m glad this relationship happened between us, and hope we remain good friends.”
Noor Alfallah (2022-Present)
Al Pacino’s relationship with Noor Alfallah, a television producer, became public knowledge in April 2022. Their romance drew major headlines again due their significant age gap of over 50 years.
In June 2023, Pacino and Alfallah welcomed their first child together, a son named Roman. This marked Pacino’s fourth child (and his first son) at the age of 83. Pacino referred to the newborn as a “very special” miracle in an interview following his son’s birth. “It always has been. I’ve got many kids,” he said in a video obtained by the Daily Mail. “But this is really special coming at this time.”
Despite some initial speculation about the couple’s status, they have been spotted together since the birth of their son, appearing to be going strong.
