Alanis Morissette will perform at Acrisure Arena in Palm Desert, Calif., on August 8, 2024.

Alternative: When Alanis Morissette released the album "Jagged Little Pill" in 1995 and rose to prominence, the Canadian singer became a trailblazer for women in rock — and pop — music. Her impactful album paved the way for artists like Fiona Apple, Pink, Kelly Clarkson and even Taylor Swift. The songs on the album, such as "All I Really Want" and "You Oughta Know," featured confessional lyrics with an energetic rock sound. However, she also showcased her versatility by creating entertaining pop songs like "Ironic" and "You Learn."

"Jagged Little Pill" topped the charts in 13 countries with sales of more than 33 million units, making it one of the best-selling albums of all time. The album won five Grammys, including Album of the Year. At the time, she was the youngest artist ever to win Album of the Year.

Many were also surprised to learn Morissette was one of the child actors on the Canadian children's TV show "You Can't Do That On Television."

Morissette will perform on Thursday at Acrisure Arena with special guests Joan Jett and the Blackhearts and support from Morgan Wade.

If you go: 7 p.m. Thursday, Acrisure Arena, 75-702 Varner Road, Palm Desert. Tickets start at $53.40. acrisurearena.com
