Alaskan Bush People's Ami Brown Prepares for a Grandchild After Surviving Cancer: 'Thank God'

The Alaskan Bush People are out of the bush — but they’re still the same Brown family.

“We just want to get back to who we are,” patriarch Billy, 66, says in PEOPLE’s exclusive preview of his Discovery reality series’ new season, which will premiere March 3.

For most of 2018, the Brown family relocated from their rural Alaskan property to Southern California while matriarch Ami, 55, battled advanced lung cancer. The move south was a shock to the system for Bill, Ami and their kids: sons Matt, 36, Bam, 34, Bear, 31, Gabe, 29, and Noah, 26, and daughters Bird, 24, and Rain, 15. Now that Ami has put her battle behind her, the family has moved a new homestead in the Washington state wilderness.

“This is an entirely new chapter,” Bam says in the clip.

Adds Billy: “We’re building something from generation to generation.”

And that next generation is only months away, as Noah and his wife of almost six months, Rhain, 28, are preparing to welcome their first child in late spring.

“I thank God he let me live to see that,” Ami says in the clip of becoming a grandmother.

The new season of Alaskan Bush People premieres March 3 at 10 p.m. ET on Discovery.
