Ali Velshi Gets New Show At Al Jazeera America

Ali Velshi is getting new duties at Al Jazeera America.
The onetime CNN anchor, who joined Al Jazeera America before it launched in 2013, will lead the half-hour program”Ali Velshi on Target,” a half-hour program focused on political and economic issues. Velshi had been hosting “Real Money,” a show centered on business and financial news.
The new program is slated to debuts May 11, 2015 and will air weeknights on Al Jazeera America at 10:30pm ET.
The network, which recently unveiled a massive restructuring of its programming schedule, said “Ali Velshi on Target” will include segments focused on themes such as the implications of the global economic situation for America, America’s crumbling infrastructure, gaps in wealth, race and gender, and the influence of special interest groups in politics and the economy.
In January, the Qatar-backed cable outlet said it would rely less on hourlong specialty programs in favor of live newscasts. The network has long harbored grand ambitions of developing into a broadly-watched alternative to what it believe is cable-news fare focused on less serious coverage, but it has faced challenges in securing an audience on par with its rivals.
