Ali Wong Tackles Post-Divorce Life in New Netflix Special
Ali Wong’s post-divorce life is getting the Netflix treatment.
The comic is set to release Single Lady on the global platform Oct. 8. The stand-up special, where she will also open up about her quest for love following the demise of her marriage, marks her fourth hour for Netflix. Her previous specials, including Ali Wong: Don Wong, Ali Wong: Baby Cobra and Ali Wong: Hard Knock Wife, featured similarly personal material, be it marriage, pregnancy or motherhood.

Wong filmed the latest hour at The Wiltern in Los Angeles as part of the Netflix Is a Joke Fest this past spring. She also directed it herself and serves as an executive producer alongside veteran John Irwin. It arrives as the market for specials is a bright spot in an otherwise bleak industry, with platforms from Netflix to Amazon to Hulu willing to write as much as eight-figure checks to land top comics.
In recent years, Wong’s profile has grown considerably both as a top-grossing comedian and as an actress with projects including Netflix Emmy winner Beef and the streaming film Always Be My Maybe. She’s also lent her voice to Ask the StoryBots, Ada Twist, Scientist and Big Mouth. As the credits suggest, the bulk of her work has been at Netflix, which also helped propel her into a global comic.
As for the new material, Wong and her now ex, tech exec Justin Hakuta, first announced their split in spring 2022 after eight years of marriage. Nevertheless, the pair remained tight, with Wong telling THR the following year that Hakuta and their children would be joining her on tour as she workshopped material about being newly single. More recently, Wong has been romantically linked to comedian Bill Hader.
