Vikander’s credits include Ex Machina, The Danish Girl, Anna Karenina, Jason Bourne, The Green Knight, and Tomb Raider. In 2015, she won an Oscar for her performance as Gerda Wegener in Tom Hooper’s The Danish Girl. Her performance also landed her a SAG Award and Critics Choice Award.
“I am incredibly honoured to be receiving the Golden Eye Award at Zurich Film Festival and proud to be amongst such a talented list of past honourees,” Vikander has said. “I was last there in 2017, for the ZFF Masters and premiere of Euphoria, and I’m so pleased to be returning to the festival once again this year.”
Previous award winners include Diane Kruger, Eddie Redmayne, Iris Berben, Kristen Stewart, Jake Gyllenhaal, John Malkovich, Helen Hunt and Olivia Colman. In addition to her acting career, Vikander has produced several features. Her producer credits include Euphoria (2017), Irma Vep (2022), The Light Between Oceans (2016), and The Man From U.N.C.L.E (2015).
Vikander stars alongside Elizabeth Olsen in The Assessment. The film tells the story of a society striving for perfection, living in a world devastated by climate change, and trying to optimize life — including the assessment of parenthood. The plot follows a successful couple that is examined by an assessor for seven days to determine their suitability to have children.
“We are delighted that Alicia Vikander is returning to the ZFF for our 20th anniversary after visiting us in 2017,” Christian Jungen, Artistic Director of the Zurich Film Festival said this afternoon.
“It was a great pleasure to meet her at the 2023 Karlovy Vary International Film Festival. On that occasion, I told her about our anniversary and mentioned how happy we would be to welcome her back to Zurich. We are all the more thrilled that it worked out – and that we are able to show her new film The Assessment as a Swiss premiere at the ZFF.”
Jungen added: “Vikander is a versatile and extraordinary character actress who captivates her audience with her compelling aura.”
