On September 26, Kotb announced that she was leaving Today after 17 years. She noted that, in part, turning 60 recently gave her a new perspective and she wants to spend more time with her young children, Haley and Hope. She also has another project simmering that we should see more of soon.
What’s Hoda Kotb Doing Next After Leaving Today?
In an October 2024 interview with People, Kotb shared, “I have something that I am super excited about that’s in its infancy.”While she didn’t have a lot of details to share just yet, she teased, “It’s a whole wellness situation, and I got lit up by that just from stuff I’ve been working on and doing on myself.”
Kotb continued, “I’ve learned to do a bunch of different things with breath works and what not through friends, through Jenna [Bush Hager], through Maria [Shriver], through all these different people, and I’ve been loving it.”
She noted that the project is “still early on in the stages” of getting a “really good wellness app together and do wellness retreats and things like that.”
Kotb shared her goals with the wellness endeavor, noting, “I think it would be, number one, fun, and number two, helpful. When I learned some of these things, I was like, ‘Wait, why do I feel like my baseline feels less stressed? Why do I feel this way?’ So I was talking about this stuff, and so the more you’re interested the more you go down kind of that path.”
There’s no firm release date on the wellness app or retreats, with Kotb only revealing it’s still “down the road.” She shared, “It is something that I’m excited about exploring and seeing what’s out there.”
More: Who will replace Hoda Kotb on Today?
During an October 7 interview on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Kotb explained why it was the right time to leave Today.
“I think I’m doing this like repotting thing,” she explained. “You know when you pull yourself up by the roots and you’re kind of dangling and you’re like, ‘Oh my God, what am I doing? What’s happening?’ But you know you’re going to land in fertile ground.”
She continued, “When I turned 60, something weird happened, man. I turned 60 and we had this beautiful party at the Today show and I looked out at the sea of all the people who came and beautiful signs and so many well wishes and I knew in my heart like, ‘This is it, man. This is what the mountaintop must feel like.’ Like I’d never had that feeling before.”
Kotb, who will leave Today in early 2025, is looking forward to having more time available for her family. “You know what, you just have a feeling when you watch them grow. I was like, they need a little more of me and I need more of them, so I think it’s all gonna work out beautifully,” she told Fallon. “But I’m going to be doing stuff at NBC, I’m going to stay in the family.”
