‘American Idol’ preview on ‘New Year’s Rockin’ Eve’: Carrie Underwood to perform while Ryan Seacrest hosts
ABC and Dick Clark Productions have announced the performers for “New Year’s Rockin’ Eve,” which will ring in 2025 at the end of the month. Carrie Underwood will perform in Times Square before the ball drops at the Ryan Seacrest-hosted event, which will be an “American Idol” reunion and preview of sorts. Underwood famously won the singing competition back in 2005 when it was airing on FOX, and now she’ll be sitting at the judging table with Seacrest continuing his hosting duties on ABC.
Underwood is one of the most successful singers to come out of “Idol.” Her debut album “Some Hearts” has been certified nine-times platinum and featured the crossover hit “Before He Cheats.” In all, she has released six platinum albums and a multitude of platinum singles. She’s also the most awarded “Idol” alum of all time with eight Grammy wins out of 16 nominations. She has won Female Vocalist of the Year five times at the CMA Awards and Entertainer of the Year three times at the ACM Awards. Now she’s set to make her return to “Idol” this spring as a judge, filling the seat that was recently vacated by pop star Katy Perry. She’ll be joined by returning judges Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie.

Country singer Megan Moroney will also take the stage in Times Square to perform a medley of two songs from her most recent album, “Am I Okay?” That album was a top-10 hit on the Billboard 200, and it helped her win New Artist of the Year at the recent CMAs. and British singer-songwriter Sophie Ellis-Bextor will be in Times Square to perform her 2001 hit “Murder on the Dancefloor,” which regained popularity after it was featured in the film “Saltburn.”
Rita Ora will co-host “New Year’s Rockin’ Eve” from New York with Seacrest, while Dayanara Torres will preside over the festivities in Puerto Rico. Other performers slated for the event include Lenny Kravitz, Teddy Swims, Tinashe, Cody Johnson, and Thomas Rhett.
