‘American Rust’ Canceled at Amazon After Streamer Rescued Show for Season 2
“American Rust” has been canceled again.
Amazon Prime Video has opted not to move forward with a third season of the series, Variety has confirmed. Amazon had picked up a second season of the series after it was canceled at its original network home, Showtime, in January 2022. It was originally slated to air on Freevee before it was shifted to Prime Video. All 10 episodes of the second season dropped on March 28.

The first season of the show was based on the Philipp Meyer novel of the same name. Season 2 of “American Rust” was officially titled “American Rust: Broken Justice.” Jeff Daniels led the series along with Maura Tierney, David Alvarez, Alex Neustaedter, Julie Mayorga, Mark Pellegrino, Rob Yang, and Kyle Beltran. Luna Lauren Velez, Marc Menchaca, Nick Sandow, Britian Seibert, Christopher Denham, Amelia Workman, Leon Addison Brown, and Sara Lindsey all joined the show in Season 2.
It was recently announced that Tierney would be joining the upcoming 24th season of “Law & Order” at NBC.
The series took place in the fictional small town of Buell, Pennsylvania. The official logline for the second season said, “Del Harris (Daniels) and Grace Poe (Tierney) try to rebuild their lives after the harrowing events of Season One. Season Two picks up with a string of seemingly unrelated murders, hinting at a much larger conspiracy that threatens everyone in this small, tight-knit town.”
Dan Futterman developed the series and served as executive producer. Daniels executive produced in addition to starring. Adam Rapp, Paul Martino, Michael De Luca, Ivan Schneeberg, David Fortier, Nick Nantell, Katie O’Connell Marsh, and Elisa Ellis also executive produced. The series was produced and distributed globally by Boat Rocker.
Pennsylvania’s Tribune-Review was the first to report the show’s cancellation.
