Amy Ryan, David Strathairn Board Joachim Trier’s ‘Louder Than Bombs’
Making his English-language debut, Oslo, August 31 director Joachim Trier is kicking off production today on Louder Than Bombs. Filming will take place in New York City with the previously announced Gabriel Byrne, Jesse Eisenberg and Isabelle Huppert being joined by Amy Ryan, David Strathairn and newcomer Devin McKenzie Druid. The Norwegian-French-Danish co-production centers on Gene (Byrne) and his two sons (Eisenberg and Druid), three years after the death of their wife and mother (Huppert), an internationally celebrated photographer. As they return to the house all four lived in during the boys’ formative years, the three grapple with contrasting memories of the woman who influenced their lives so profoundly. In doing so, they begin to negotiate how best to live together, and uncover the mystery that informed her life.
Trier’s previous films, Reprise and Oslo, August 31st, were festival favorites that scooped up many prizes. He co-wrote each of them with Eskil Vogt with whom he reteams on Louder Than Bombs. Producers are Motlys’ Thomas Robsahm, Memento Films’ Alexandre Mallet-Guy, Animal Kingdom’s Joshua Astrachan, Beachside Film’s Marc Turtletaub, and Bona Fide’s Albert Berger and Ron Yerxa. Memento Films International is brokering overseas rights and will team with UTA and CAA for the North American sale. Deals are already in place in Norway, Denmark, Sweden, France, Benelux, Greece, Israel, ex-Yugoslavia, Turkey, Taiwan, and the Middle East. Ryan is repped by Gersh; Strathairn is with ICM.
