Andie MacDowell's hair has been giving us curl envy for decades!
The actress, who turns 66 on April 21, 2024, has been rocking her natural curls since before making her screen debut in 1984 when she was working as a model with the likes of Calvin Klein. Now, more than 40 years later, her curls are as bouncy as ever.
From early '80s modeling days to her "badass" transition to silver locks, take a look back at some of MacDowell's best hair moments over the years.
Model Days
Before kicking off her career on screen with breakout roles in films like St. Elmo's Fire, Groundhog Day and Four Weddings and a Funeral in the 1980s and early 1990s, Andie MacDowell worked as a model. She is seen here on set with Calvin Klein in 1980 modeling for his 1981 ready-to-wear collection.
In addition to the very '80s ensemble she's showing off, her hair is also screaming '80s with its endless volume.
'80s Style
While the two were both working as models, Andie MacDowell met Paul Qualley while working on a job for Gap. The two married in 1986 and in 1989 he was right by her side at the premiere of her movie Sex, Lies and Videotape.
Big Girl Curl
For the 1991 Golden Globe Awards, where she was nominated for best performance by an actress in a motion picture - musical or comedy, Andie MacDowell wore a super low-back dress that gave ample room for her long curls to drape down her back.
In Character
For her role in 1993's Groundhog Day opposite Bill Murray, Andie MacDowell's curls were also on full display.
Old Hollywood Glam
When it came time for the 1993 Academy Awards, Andie MacDowell stunned in this homage to Old Hollywood, which was complete with rows of pearls and her hair styled into this vintage fashion.
Family Time
In a move many naturally curly-haired people can relate to, Andie MacDowell has also had some fun with a hair dryer or flat iron and though not often, has on occasion stepped out with her hair blown out. In this sweet family photo at the premiere of Just the Ticket, Andie MacDowell and Paul Qualley pose with young daughters Rainey and Margaret Qualley.
They are also parents to son Justin Qualley.
Back to Basics
Her hair was a bit shorter for the 2002 Cannes Film Festival, where she sported an elegant 'do paired with a pink spaghetti strap dress and diamond necklace.
Golden Hour
And in 2006, she appeared to not only play with the texture of her hair but also the color, when her tresses took on a bit of a lighter hue.
Like Mother, Like Daughters
In 2012 she stepped out with her two daughters Rainey and Margaret — whose hair was much longer than we are now used to seeing it! Mom, on the other hand, had her hair back to her tried and true curls styled at a shoulder length.
Waving Along
Andie MacDowell went for somewhere between curly and straight at this Hallmark Channel event back in 2018 when she wore her hair in soft waves.
You Go Curl
In early 2020, Andie MacDowell stepped out ahead of a Dior fashion show in Paris with her hair styled in its classic brown hue just below shoulder length. Not long after this event, MacDowell stopped coloring her hair, which would soon become her signature look.
Silver Screen
In 2021, she starred alongside daughter Margaret in Maid playing her onscreen mother. In the role, audiences saw Andie MacDowell sporting some gray hair — a look she told Drew Barrymore and Ross Matthews earlier that year her daughters thought was "badass"
"I wasn't coloring my hair and you could see my roots, and my daughters [Rainey and Margaret Qualley] kept telling me that I looked badass. And that idea that I could look badass appealed to me," the star said on an episode of The Drew Barrymore Show. "So I went for it, and I'm loving it."
"It's not gray, it's silver," she clarified.
Personal Style
At the time she told Matthews and Barrymore that she wasn't sure if the color was permanent and if she would go back to dyeing, though from the looks of it, the silver is here to stay.
Runway Star
As a longtime spokesperson for the brand, Andie MacDowell hit the runway for the sixth edition of L'Oréal Paris' runway show in October 2023 alongside Kendall Jenner ,Viola Davis, Eva Longoria and Helen Mirren under an illuminated Eiffel Tower — and sure seemed to have some fun with her curly 'do.
New Look
And fast forward to 2024, the actress is still rocking her silver 'do and her iconic curls into the new year.
