Andy Cohen is 'flattered' by comparison to Adam Schiff: 'He is a patriot, and so am I'
Andy Cohen is best known for gossiping with Real Housewives stars over a glass of chardonnay. But the Bravo host and TV personality says he’s also a “patriot” — a response to Late Show host Stephen Colbert calling Rep. Adam Schiff “the Andy Cohen of Congress” in a recent monologue.
Cohen, 51, was surprised and delighted to hear about the comparison — and hilarious impression — done by Colbert on Monday night, as brought to his attention during a Yahoo Lifestyle interview on Tuesday.
“No, you’re kidding!” Cohen said, noting that he was “flattered” before even watching the clip for himself. “I love it!”
The impression (beginning at 6:27 in the video below) was part of Colbert’s monologue about the ongoing impeachment hearings against President Donald Trump. In the segment, “Don and the Giant Impeach,” Colbert highlighted Schiff’s real-time acknowledgement of Trump’s tweets attacking former Ambassador to Ukraine, Marie Yovanovitch, during which he asked for her on-the-record response.
“Wow, he’s reading Trump’s nasty comment right to her on live TV. It’s like he’s the Andy Cohen of Congress,” Colbert said, before doing a Cohen-inspired Schiff impression.
And although Cohen hadn’t yet seen the clip as of Tuesday night, he still approved.
“It’s great. Adam Schiff is a patriot, and so am I,” Cohen told Yahoo Lifestyle. “I’m flattered to be in the same sentence as Adam Schiff. And Stephen Colbert.”
Still, Cohen is no stranger to criticism — especially after becoming a single father to his 9-month-old son, Ben.
“I posted a picture of me with Ben on a boat in front of the Statue of Liberty and I was holding him up and everyone’s like, ‘He doesn’t have a life jacket on!’ And I was like, ‘Oh that’s funny,’” he said. “People will always pick something to criticize you on, and so I know myself, and I know the reality of every situation, and so I just ignore it. It’s stupid.”
Instead, he’s focused on enjoying his adventure with Ben — who recently won the title of People’s Cutest Baby Alive — and of bringing the baby along to all of his favorite travel spots with the help of his new partnership with Expedia and Vrbo.
“Vrbo’s allowing me to book vacations in spaces that I wasn’t looking for before. I need more room, I need bedrooms, I need things like kitchens. So now that I’m connected to Vrbo, I’m happy that I’m working with them to find a trip in early January that I’m taking Ben on,” he says. “I want to take him everywhere. I want to take him to Disney and Universal, which I never thought I would say. And I want to take him all over Europe. I want to take him to every beach there is.”
