Anna Paquin and Stephen Moyer: Everything to Know About the Actors' Relationship
Former ‘True Blood' costars Anna Paquin and Stephen Moyer have been married since 2010
Anna Paquin and Stephen Moyer’s sparks continue to fly off-screen.
The couple first met while working on True Blood in 2008, and have been by each other’s side ever since. Their romance escalated in August 2009 when Moyer proposed to Paquin with a vintage-style ring.
After a year-long engagement, the pair married in Malibu, California. Paquin and Moyer then started a family with the birth of their twins, Charlie and Poppy, in 2012.
The proud husband spoke to Kelly Clarkson about his and Paquin's love story during a March 2024 interview on The Kelly Clarkson Show. “It was just like this ... I don’t know this magnetism,” Moyer said. “And if you watch the show like those first few episodes when we’re coming together — it’s kind of like off the charts.”
In April 2024, the actors put their love on full display while at the New York City premiere of their film, A Bit of Light — which Moyer directed and Paquin starred in. “This is a date night for us,” he told PEOPLE while on the red carpet.
From flirting with each other on and off the screen to raising their family together, here’s everything to know about Anna Paquin and Stephen Moyer’s relationship.
They met on the set of True Blood
After first crossing paths during casting for True Blood, Paquin and Moyer had an immediate connection. Moyer was cast as the lead vampire, Bill Compton, while Paquin played the role of the protagonist, Sookie Stackhouse. During filming, the two sparked a romance, taking their chemistry into the real world.
“We met screen testing for the show. We were both single at the time, and there was just this kind of spark,” Moyer said during an appearance on Andy Cohen’s Watch What Happens Live in 2015.
Once they started filming the first episodes, Moyer said he knew there could be something serious between him and Paquin. “By day three or four – oh, this is going to sound so syrupy – but I knew I wanted to spend the rest of my life with her. It was within seconds, really, and it just became a thing," he said.
Paquin shared an old photo on her Instagram in 2021 to revisit their time on the hit TV series, which ended in 2014.
“A little #trueblood era throwback pic for my beloved on his birthday because we both currently look as old and exhausted as we actually are ?? I’m more in love with you than ever ??,” she captioned the selfie.
Paquin and Moyer married in August 2010
Two years into True Blood, in August 2010, Paquin and Moyer wed in a romantic ceremony among their loved ones.
A source who attended the ceremony revealed to PEOPLE that Paquin and Moyer were officially married at the end of the day.
“It was a beautiful evening to get married and the sunset was gorgeous,” they said. “Anna and Stephen seemed very excited to celebrate their wedding day.”
Those in attendance included their True Blood family: the show’s creator Alan Ball and costars Ryan Kwanten, Sam Trammell, Rutina Wesley and Carrie Preston.
They share two kids
Two years after their wedding, Paquin and Moyer became proud parents to fraternal twins Charlie and Poppy.
“The babies were born a few weeks early, but are in good health and both Mom and Dad are overjoyed,” their rep told E! News in September 2012.
Moyer celebrated Mother’s Day on Instagram in 2019 and gushed over Paquin’s multitasking skills.
“Happy Mother’s Day to my badassbride [sic]. Here’s scary mumma bear carrying both the puppies,” Moyer captioned the post. “We just got to spend 17 hours together for the first time in a month. We all miss you babe. Thanks as always for being so incredible & working so hard for our family.”
Paquin opened up to PEOPLE about raising her children without social media in March 2024.
“Luckily it’s not a thing with them yet,” the proud mother explained. “They’re only 11. But I think it’s important to keep them as protected as possible and for them to get to be young without having every single moment of their lives documented.”
Moyer is also a father to a son, Billy, and a daughter, Lilac, from prior relationships.
Paquin and Moyer love working together
Although True Blood came to an end in 2014, Paquin and Moyer have continued to work together on multiple projects. He directed her in A Bit of Light, which premiered on April 5, 2024.
“I mean people ask us a lot, 'Isn't it weird working with your spouse?' And I'm like, well, it's how we met,” Moyer told PEOPLE in January 2024. “We were on set every day together for seven years. And so actually when we're not working together, it feels like I miss her. It feels weird.”
They also collaborated on Paquin’s 2019 series, Flack. “We sort of have this sort of language where I can look at her and she'll go, yep, got it. We [are] finishing each other's sandwiches basically,” he quipped. “That's a line from Frozen.”
Ahead of the premiere of A Bit of Light, Paquin opened up to PEOPLE about the benefits of having a relationship with the film’s director. “There are definitely upsides, and not just because I got the part,” she joked.
“He's my favorite person to play with,” Paquin continued. "Honestly, if I didn't think he was great at directing, I wouldn't be working with him. Of course, I love him dearly as my husband, but I'm pretty unsentimental when it comes to work.”
They’ve tried long-distance
Although the actors work together occasionally, there are also periods when their projects take them away from each other. On one such occasion, Paquin shared a sweet photo of her and Moyer on Instagram in July 2021 and expressed how much she missed him.
“I’m always so grateful we get to have careers we are passionate about (and even more so after this crazy last year) but damn the long-distance thing NEVER gets any easier. ?????? #myperson,” she wrote in the caption.
Paquin and Moyer bring their work home
When Paquin and Moyer collaborated on their 2024 film, they often had to discuss work at home.
“With A Bit of Light, working on a small-budget level, we were very hands-on in all aspects, so at the end of the day we knew we’d better be prepared for the next day,” Paquin told PEOPLE in April 2024.
“It had to be good, fast, cheap,” she added of the production process. “It was great to have that time at home to talk about what was going to happen the next day.”
They celebrate their love on social media
Paquin and Moyer have posted romantic tributes to each other on Instagram. In August 2021, he shared a throwback photo of himself and Paquin to honor their 11th wedding anniversary.
“Happy 11th Wedding Anniversary to my beautiful brilliant amazing old lady. ?? Been a couple of months since we’ve seen each other," he wrote in the caption. "Counting the days babe.. Too many anniversaries apart."
In response, his wife re-posted the photo and replied with a cheeky caption. “Look at this pair of silly f------! ?? 11 years and still as ridiculous as ever. See you soon, my love,” Paquin penned.
