Anne Hathaway, Nicholas Galitzine to wind up SXSW with ‘The Idea of You’ premiere

Now we know which movies will open and close the film and TV component of South by Southwest 2024, just around the corner March 8-16.

The short list of headliner movies will unreel on May 8 with Jake Gyllenhaal in director Doug Liman's redo of "Road House," the fight movie that starred Patrick Swayze in 1989.

The fest's four biggest movie premieres will wind up with Anne Hathaway and Nicholas Galitzine as a romantic pair in Michael Showalter's "The Idea of You."

Hathaway plays a 40-year-old single mom who falls in love with the 24-year-old lead singer of a hit boy band, played by Nicholas Galitzine, whom she meets while chaperoning her teen daughter at the Coachella Music Festival.

What could go wrong? Without giving anything away, Hathaway's character becomes disenchanted with romance in the limelight.

In other words, SXSW film and TV will start with a fight and end with a kiss, perhaps of farewell.

How to attend SXSW 2024

SXSW will be March 8-16. Badge rates are about to go up again, but at press time they were $1,835 for a Platinum pass (which grants access to all festival and conference tracks); $1,445 for an Interactive festival pass; $1,345 for a Film and Television festival pass and $890 for a music festival badge. Music and Film Festival wristbands will be made available to locals closer to the fest.
