'Ant-Man and the Wasp' trailer: smaller heroes, bigger powers, and a killer Pez dispenser
The first trailer for Ant-Man and the Wasp makes it clear that the Wasp isn’t just a variation on Ant-Man: She’s an upgrade. In the sequel to Marvel’s 2015 superhero comedy Ant-Man, ex-con turned miniature hero Scott Lang (Paul Rudd) is once again in trouble with the law — and it seems that his participation in a certain airport battle (cue the Captain America: Civil War flashback) is to blame. Not only is Scott under house arrest, but shrinking-suit inventor Dr. Hank Pym (Michael Douglas) and Hank’s daughter and collaborator, Hope van Dyne (Evangeline Lilly), are forced to go on the run. Looks like Ant-Man could use a partner who’s a little smarter about this superhero stuff. Fortunately, Hank has developed a new and improved shrinking suit for Hope. Equipped with wings and blasters, Hope takes on her lost mother’s identity as the Wasp. Together, she and Ant-Man will fight the forces of evil with whatever it takes, including a giant-sized Hello Kitty Pez dispenser. Watch the trailer below.
In the interim between films, it seems that Hank has perfected the technology to shrink and grow objects, including moving cars and entire buildings. A few other plot points teased by the trailer:
Here’s the first appearance of Ghost, the new villain played by Hannah John-Kamen.
‘
This shot seems to be taking us inside the quantum realm, where Hope just might find her mother (played by Michelle Pfeiffer, not seen in the trailer).
And we’ll get to see a repeat performance of Giant-Man, the supersized version of Ant-Man who made his debut in Captain America: Civil War.
Ant-Man and the Wasp opens in theaters on July 6.
