'Bachelorette' Alum J.P. Rosenbaum Diagnosed With Rare Autoimmune Disorder
Bachelorette alum J.P. Rosenbaum has been diagnosed with Guillain-Barré syndrome.
The 42-year-old reality TV star and his wife, Ashley Hebert, shared the news about his shocking diagnosis on social media on Sunday.
"JP was diagnosed with Guillain-Barré syndrome yesterday," Ashley posted alongside a photo of her husband lying in a hospital bed. "He is in treatment and doing well. It may be a long road to full recovery, but we are so grateful to everyone that has helped us get to a speedy diagnosis and treatment."
J.P. also took to his Instagram Stories to share that the experience has been “very surreal and humbling and crazy, rare.”
"Things you do every day, like picking up this phone, or buttoning buttons, tying shoelaces, putting on deodorant, just can't do it," he said in a video describing the rare autoimmune disorder, which according to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, causes a person’s own immune system to damage its nerves, causing muscle weakness and sometimes paralysis.
"Picking up my kids, can't do it. Wiping your a**, maybe TMI, but might have Ashley assist on the next one," he added.
J.P. also shared that he'll be spending the next few days in the hospital so doctors can monitor if his symptoms have plateaued, followed by "lots of physical therapy."
The Bachelor Nation couple met on season 7 of The Bachelorette and tied the knot in December 2012 in a beautiful ceremony officiated by Chris Harrison.
The parents of two recently celebrated their 7th wedding anniversary. Earlier this week, J.P. marked the occasion by sharing a heartwarming Instagram post to his lady love.
"7 years down, probably about 3-4 more to go. Happy anniversary to the woman responsible for all the love and happiness in this picture (and basically all my pictures for the last 7 years)," he captioned a photo of their family of four.
The lovebirds, who are one of the rare couples from the franchise that are still going strong, opened up to ET in October about if TheBachelor should still end with a proposal.
"I think you have to do what feels right," said J.P., who appeared on season seven of Marriage Boot Camp: Reality Stars with Ashley. "Like for us, it felt right. Well, at the time it felt right. Looking back, like, what the hell was I thinking proposing after two months? But you gotta do what feels right. I mean, no one forces you to do anything so..."
Ashley chimed in, saying, "The age thing is really interesting because it just goes to show people are not settling down younger, they're just looking for something."
"So maybe the people that are going on the show now, it's like they don't have the same intentions that people did five years ago," she explained. "Things have changed! Like, there's social media and now there are platforms that people are kind of building their whole careers on. So, things are changing."
"Why change something that's working? Like, what do I know, right?" she continued. "Everybody still watches!"
