Arts picks: 'Pretty Woman' tour, 'Into the Breeches' comedy in Stow, Atwood livestream

'Pretty Woman'

The tour of "Pretty Woman: The Musical," based on the iconic 1990 romantic comedy starring Richard Gere and Julia Roberts, opens Tuesday, continuing through March 27 at the Connor Palace at Cleveland's Playhouse Square. The tour stars Broadway superstar Adam Pascal as Edward Lewis and Olivia Valli as Vivian Ward. Directed and choreographed by Jerry Mitchell, featuring an original score by Grammy winner Bryan Adams and Jim Vallance, and a book by the movie's director Garry Marshall and screenwriter J. F. 'Into the Breeches'

See what happens when women take over the whole show while all the men are at war in the theater-themed comedy "Into the Breeches," opening Friday at Stow Players. The show by George Brant of Cleveland Heights, set in Providence, Rhode Island, during World War II, is based on the true story of how women kept Cleveland Play House going in the 1940s. It runs through March 19, with shows at 7:30 p.m. Fridays-Saturdays and 2:30 p.m. Sundays at Silver Springs Park Heritage Barn, 5238 Young Road. Cost is $15; $10 for students. 'EarthQuaker Symphony'

The Akron Symphony Orchestra and Akron's EarthQuaker Devices team up for the newly commissioned work "Confluence," co-composed by EarthQuaker artist Jon Sonnenberg of Medina and New York composer Jake Gunnar Walsh. Hear a fusion of electronica and acoustic instruments through handmade effects pedals live onstage at E.J. Thomas Hall at 8 p.m. Saturday. Other works will be Haydn's "Earthquake," Beethoven's "The Creatures of Prometheus Overture" and "The Ruins of Athens: Turkish March" and Dawson's "Negro Folk Symphony." 'Antigone'

Cleveland Play House will present a new take on Sophocles' epic Greek tragedy "Antigone," opening Saturday and running through March 27 in the Outcalt Theatre at Playhouse Square. Cleveland native Mariah Burks stars in the title role. Cost is $15 to $95. See www.clevelandplayhouse.com.

Margaret Atwood livestreamed

The Hudson Library & Historical Society will host a live virtual streaming event with New York Times bestselling author Margaret Atwood at 7 p.m. Tuesday, in conversation with Kent State University assistant professor of English Elizabeth Wagoner. Atwood, most famous for her 1985 classic "The Handmaid’s Tale," is the author of more than 50 books of fiction, poetry and critical essays.
