Austin Gamblers in spotlight for Amazon Prime Video’s new documentary series ‘The Ride’
Focusing on what's billed as the most exciting eight seconds in sports, Amazon Prime Video’s documentary series "The Ride" follows the Professional Bull Riding Team Series during the highs and lows (and oftentimes blows) of its inaugural year.
The documentary features the Austin Gamblers, led by team captain and superstar José Vitor Leme.
The eight-episode series highlights elite bull riders on eight teams as they compete across the United States in an effort to capture the overall title. In a sport fraught with uncertainty, the bull riders experience injuries, deaths and countless setbacks while forging unbreakable bonds with their teammates and coaches.
Despite being the favorites, last year the Gamblers finished third in the Team Series Championship. This year, the Gamblers hope to redeem themselves and bring home the win.
“We were disappointed with last year’s result, so we’re hungry to win this year,” Ezekiel “Blue” Mitchell, one of the Gamblers’ bull riders, said at the premiere.
Viewers can expect to witness the raw emotion behind the scenes of one of the fastest-growing sports in the United States. In recent years, Professional Bull Riding has seen its popularity amplified due to a rise in interest in the Western and cowboy lifestyle, which has been popularized and commercialized by TV shows such as "Yellowstone" and "1883."
