‘Awards Magnet’: BAFTAs breakdown and 2025 SAG Awards winner predictions
Did the BAFTAs change the Oscar race? Will Demi Moore rebound at the Screen Actors Guild Awards? Awards Magnet hosts Christopher Rosen and Joyce Eng discuss the BAFTAs and make their SAG predictions with Gold Derby editor-in-chief Debra Birnbaum.
The BAFTAs spread the wealth a bit on Sunday, with Conclave taking Best Picture and Brady Corbet (The Brutalist) taking Best Director, a week after Anora won the Producers Guild of America and Directors Guild of America Awards and reclaim its spot as the Oscar frontrunner. Anora was not favored to win either of those categories, but it still made out well across the pond as it won Best Casting and Best Actress for Mikey Madison, who upset favorite Moore (The Substance). Moore has the non-industry awards Golden Globe and Critics Choice under her belt, but the BAFTAs marked the first time the industry chimed in on the acting categories. After Madison’s victory and Anora‘s guild haul — it also won the Writers Guild of America Award on Saturday — maybe Madison, like her film, has been the frontrunner all along.

Moore can reassert herself at the SAG Awards this coming Sunday, where she’s the odds-on favorite. No one loves a narrative more than SAG-AFTRA, so Moore is a safe pick there, but Anora has shown to be very strong with guilds. Will that manifest in a win for Madison or ensemble, where it’s in second behind Wicked? Meanwhile, Timothée Chalamet remains in first place in the Best Actor odds, but Adrien Brody has not lost a step or a single award yet and has proven he can win without The Brutalist cleaning up.
