In the most unpredictable Best Picture race in years, a case could be made for six films to win Best Picture: Anora, The Brutalist (the odds-on favorite), A Complete Unknown, Conclave, Emilia Pérez, and Wicked. With 13 nominations, Emilia Pérez is leading the field and the online hate train, but we already know the industry adores the Netflix crime musical, which puts it in good position to win. But how will it perform on the Oscars’ preferential ballot? Could it reap a ton of No. 1 votes but not enough in the No. 2 and 3 spots? And which film could be the Spotlight of the year?

Meanwhile, Moore is now the favorite to win at the Critics Choice Awards, Screen Actors Guild Awards, BAFTA, and the Oscars, having surged following her Golden Globe win for The Substance. But Torres is on her heels in second place in the Oscar odds, bolstered by her own Globe win and I’m Still Here‘s shocking Best Picture nomination. The pair will not face off before the Oscars; in fact, Torres will not face off against any of her Oscar rivals beforehand since she’s not nominated at any of the precursors. Is this a good thing or a bad thing for her chances?
