Awkwafina Making A Bang At Comedy Central With New Show Inspired By Her Life
We know her as Awkwafina but Nora Lum is her real name and she’s putting her life story out there. Nora From Queens premiered last night on Comedy Central with a bang, so much so that the show received an early second season renewal, already.
The premiere episode drew in 489,000 total viewers from the age of 18-49, making it the network’s highest-rated season one premiere since 2017. It was the best primetime premiere on Comedy Central since 2016 amongst Women ages 18-49.

It ranked number one for social interactions across Facebook, Twitter and Instagram with 39,000 impressions. Making it the most social primetime cable comedy of the night, marking the network’s most socially active premiere since 2016.
Awkwafina is Nora From Queens is executive produced by Nora Lum, Karey Dornetto, Lucia Aniello, Teresa Hsiao, Peter Principato and Itay Reiss of Artists First. Obviously lending Awkwafina her first network producing credit.
The Crazy Rich Asians star is the forefront of the half-hour scripted comedy. Inspired by her real-life growing up in Queens, NY. Raised by her Dad played by BD Wong and Grandma played by Lori Tan Chinn with Bowen Yang as her cousin, Nora Lin leans on her family as she navigates life and young adulthood in outer borough-NYC.
The comedy series is grounded in Asian culture and identity. It’s an Asian family that moves the needle forward, showing audiences that the culture is not stalled and stiff believe it or not. The series continues Awkwafina’s deep and impressive role from The Farewell shedding light on the special relationship Nora and her grandma share as we get to see an authentic and hilarious bond between the two characters played by Awkwafina herself and Chinn.
Nora attended the Santa Barbara International Film Festival this past Saturday and discussed the show before it’s premiere as she received her Virtusouse Award with seven other stars this year. Amongst the stars was her former "Neighbors 2" co-star Beanie Feldstein.
Even though Awkwafina was discovered as a youtube rapper when her song “My Vag” went viral. She is now proving that she has talent beyond the digital platform and has starred in Jumanji: The Next Level, Oceans’s 8 and more stealing audiences' hearts. Coming at no surprise of why Comedy Central chose her to carry her own show and boosting their numbers.
