Edebiri received the award for her performance as Sydney Adamu in FX’s The Bear, which released its second season in June 2023. This is her first win and nomination.
Edebiri went on to thank her friends and co-stars on the hit series: “Everybody out there,” she said, gesturing the Golden Globes room. “That’s my family, I love you guys so much. It’s an honor to work with you and grow alongside you.”
She finished her speech with a final list of thank yous: “The actresses I was nominated alongside also, and also my family, love you guys too,” she said, getting loud cheers for then calling out assistants. “All of my agents and managers, assistants! The people who answer my emails. Ya’ll are real ones. Thank you for answering my crazy, crazy emails.”
The Bear received five total nominations this year, including for best comedy TV series and performances nods for Edebiri’s co-stars Jeremy Allen White, Ebon Moss-Bachrach and Abby Elliott. White also picked up the trophy for best actor in a comedy series for The Bear.
Season two of The Bear finished with a 99 percent rating among critics and a 92 percent score from viewers on Rotten Tomatoes. The show was renewed for a third season in November 2023, and is set to return sometime this year.
Edebiri’s win comes on the heels of a wildly successful (and busy) year for her. In addition to The Bear, the actress also had roles in Theater Camp, Bottoms and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem. She made an appearance in the first episode of Black Mirror‘s latest season and will join the Marvel Cinematic Universe with Thunderbolts in 2025.
Edebiri beat out Rachel Brosnahan (The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel), Quinta Brunson (Abbott Elementary), Elle Fanning (The Great), Selena Gomez (Only Murders in the Building) and Natasha Lyonne (Poker Face) for the 2024 Golden Globe. Find the complete winners list here.
