When Hope Calls, based on Janette Oke’s Canadian West book series (the same inspiration for When Calls the Heart), premiered on Hallmark’s former streaming service, Hallmark Movies Now, in 2019 and aired for one season. The series followed Lillian and Grace, originally introduced in When Calls the Heart‘s holiday special, The Greatest Christmas Blessing, as two orphaned sisters who were separated when Lillian was seven and Grace was five. The series picks up as Lillian and Grace reunite as adults and open an orphanage together in the small northwest Canadian town of Brookfield in 1916.

When Hope Calls was cancelled by Hallmark after one season. After its cancellation, GAC Family picked up the series for a two-episode holiday special, “A Country Christmas,” in 2021, before the spinoff was put on hold indefinitely. Now, three years later, When Hope Calls is coming back for an official second season—this time, on Great American Family. “We were fortunate early on to understand that Janette Oke’s faith-filled characters had such rich origins that building entertainment universes from this world would present themselves over and over,” Bill Abbott, President and CEO of Great American Media, in a press release.
When does When Hope Calls Season 2 come out?
When Hope Calls Season 2 will premiere on Great American Family in January 2025. The series will also be available on GAF’s streaming service, Great American Pure Flix.
