Set in the Nineties, the upcoming film, based on the book of the same name by Charlie Huston, will follow Butler as Hank Thompson, a former baseball player who gets involved in the New York City crime scene. (Aronofsky has not publicly addressed the news.)
Aronofsky cast Bad Bunny in his first major big-screen role when he joined Brad Pitt on Bullet Train as The Wolf. Before then, he made his on-screen debut on Netflix’s Narcos: México as Kitty Paez in 2021, and he starred in Amazon’s 2023 film Cassandro with Gael García Bernal as Felipe. (Rolling Stone ranked the Bernal-starring film as one of the 20 Best TV and Movie Performances of 2023.)
The Caught Stealing announcement comes two months after Bad Bunny wrapped his 49-show Most Wanted Tour in celebration of his last LP, Nadie Sabe Lo Que Va Pasar Ma?ana. He’s also joined WWE’s SmackDown, Backlash, and Royal Rumble over the last two years.
The news of Bad Bunny’s new acting role comes several days after Variety reported that fellow reggaetonero (and Bad Bunny’s Oasis collaborator) J Balvin will make his acting debut as an Interpol investigator in Andy Hines’ Little Lorraine.
