BAFTAs 2019: Full list of nominations
The British Academy of Film and Television Arts has today announced the nominees for the EE British Academy Film Awards 2019.
The Favourite leads the pack with 12 nominations including Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Original Screenplay, with Bohemian Rhapsody, First Man, Roma and A Star Is Born following with seven nominations each.
Upon hearing the news, I director Yorgos Lanthimos paid tribute to his leading ladies Olivia Colman, Emma Stone, and Rachel Weisz.
“Thank you to BAFTA for honouring The Favourite and acknowledging the passion and dedication, from so many departments, that went into making our film,” the Greek filmmaker said. “The Favourite has been many, many years in the making and we, the entire filmmaking team, are incredibly proud to have received this profound recognition today. I’m especially happy for the magnificent triumvirate that is Olivia, Rachel, and Emma, whose immense talent bring our film to life.”
The 72nd British Academy Film Awards, commonly known as the BAFTAs, will be held on 10 February, at the Royal Albert Hall in London. The nominations were announced this morning at BAFTA HQ in Piccadilly by British stars Will Poulter and Hayley Squires.
Joanna Lumley is set to host the glitzy awards show for the second time, where independent film production company Number 9 Films will receive the Outstanding British Contribution to Cinema Award for its work on films such as Carol, Colette, and Made in Dagenham.
