Barbra Streisand criticized for saying many women voted Trump solely because their husbands did: 'They don't believe enough in their own thoughts'
Barbra Streisand expressing her democratic views should come as a surprise to very few people, but some new comments she made have riled Trump supporters — and now she’s being called “sexist.”
The songstress gave a wide-ranging interview to the Daily Mail and in it discussed her new album, Walls, which includes a direct hit at President Trump in the song “Don’t Lie to Me.” She said she’s singing about “being passionately upset with what is happening to my country,” which she loves. “It’s painful to see democracy being assaulted, institutions being assaulted and women being assaulted,” she added.
On the topic of women’s abortion rights, which are at risk with Brett Kavanaugh now on the Supreme Court, Streisand seemed in disbelief at the current state of politics. “Can you imagine? There’s a war between people who want to live in the future and look forward to the future, and people who want to live in the past,” she said. “Imagine, women who for 40-something years have had the right to choose now perhaps won’t.”
Streisand suggested that Trump’s female supporters weren’t thinking for themselves.
“Obviously, some women cast their ballots for Trump in the presidential election, but why would they vote for a man who doesn’t let them control their own bodies? It’s a terribly complex thing,” she said. “A lot of women vote the way their husbands vote; they don’t believe enough in their own thoughts. Maybe that woman who’s so articulate, so experienced and so fit for the presidency,” referring of course to Hillary Clinton, “was too intimidating. … Perhaps she made women feel unsuccessful.” Streisand said that these realizations were “so devastating to me and I was heartbroken.”
Streisand’s comments have been all over the internet — and some, including actress Alana Stewart, have called them “sexist.”
Seriously, Barbra??? Not only insulting to millions of women, but kind of sexist, wouldn’t you say?

This argument is getting so old. I formed my political beliefs long before I met my husband&part of the reason he fell in love with me was because I DO believe in my own thoughts rather than believing in what others—like Barbra Streisand—tell me to believe https://t.co/9VFutCGOjC

I'm married and never once asked my husband for whom to vote. That's a pretty old schoo,l sexist comment coming from Streisand!

Then there are the people who just don’t want to hear from celebrities who have opinions on politics.
Just another celebrity issuing an opinion based on nothing. Meh.

And conservative commentator Tomi Lahren chimed in.
Barbara Streisand declares “a lot of women vote the way their husbands vote; they don’t believe enough in their own thoughts.”
Hey Barb, I’m single, believe in my own thoughts, and am NOT sick of winning with PRESIDENT TRUMP!!
Are you moving to Canada yet?

On the other hand, many could relate to Streisand’s opinions. On Tuesday, she shared this piece of advice with her Twitter followers: “If you want to make everybody happy, don’t be a leader. Sell ice cream.”

The iconic songstress’s interview wasn’t just politics — and she was very candid. She also talked about her troubled relationship with her mother, saying, “I think there are parents who don’t really like themselves. They don’t like their offspring either. My mother meant well.” She also discussed the death of her dog 18 months ago — yes, the one she cloned — and grieving as if “it were a child.”
