‘Wild’ Scribe Nick Hornby To Adapt Culture-Clash Comedy ‘Love, Nina’ For BBC
The BBC today announced a brace of drama projects: Love, Nina, a five-episode half-hour series from Nick Hornby as well as New Blood, a seven-part hour-long investigative crime thriller from Anthony Horowitz.
Love, Nina is Oscar-nominated screenwriter (An Education) and acclaimed novelist Nick Hornby’s first drama for television and is an adaptation of Nina Stibbe’s bestselling book about a 19-year-old girl, who leaves Leicester to work as a nanny in London.
See-Saw Films (The King’s Speech; Top Of The Lake) is producing. The project was commissioned by Charlotte Moore, Controller BBC One and Ben Stephenson, Controller BBC Drama Commissioning.
“Love, Nina has already attained the status of a modern classic, and I am so happy that I’ve been given the opportunity to adapt it. We want to make a series that is as charming, funny and delightful as Nina Stibbe’s glorious book,” said Nick Hornby.
Love, Nina won the 2014 National Book Award for popular non-fiction book of the year. It will be executive produced by Iain Canning, Emile Sherman and Jamie Laurenson for See-Saw Films and Lucy Richer, Drama Commissioning Editor, for BBC One.
Also announced today is New Blood, about two junior investigators from difference law enforcement units who are thrown together in contemporary London.
“For a long time I’ve been wondering how to take a fresh approach to crime drama and I hope that with New Blood I’ve succeeded,” said Anthony Horowitz. “This is a show about the so-called Y generation – young people starting out in their careers, the powerless against the powerful. It’s so refreshing to be writing about two central characters who are still in their late twenties and 21st century London is the perfect setting.”
Jill Green’s Eleventh Hour Films produces what will be the company’s first BBC commission.
