‘The Bear’s Liza Colón-Zayas Emotional After Emmy Win: “I Didn’t Think It Would Be Possible”
“Thank you to my husband, David. He told me to write a speech, and I didn’t, because I didn’t think it would be possible,” said an emotional Liza Colón-Zayas on Sunday, accepting the Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series for her role as line cook Tina Marrero in The Bear.
It’s her first nomination and first win.

She’s excellent in the FX show, but the Emmy was a surprise as most pundits were banking on Hannah Einbinder for her first Emmy off a third nomination for Season 3 of Hacks. The competitive field also included Carol Burnett for Palm Royale, Janelle James and Sheryl Lee Ralph for Abbott Elementary, and Meryl Streep for Only Murders in the Building.

“How could I have thought it would be possible to be in [their] presence?” she asked. “Anyway, I love you all. I revere you to the bottom of my heart,” Colón-Zayas said. The actress and playwright, who started her career in New York City theater, thanked her family and The Bear cast.
“Thank you. Thank you. Thank you for giving me a new life with this show,” she said. “And to all the Latinas who would be looking at me. Keep believing. Thank you.”
