‘The Bear’ Season 4 Is Coming, Chef! FX/Hulu

The following story contains spoilers for the entirety of The Bear season 3.

WHILE THE DEBATE over whether FX's hit culinary dramedy The Bear should be released on a weekly schedule or all at once rages on, there's one thing everyone watching can agre on: as soon as it's over, we've all got a hankering for more episodes comprable to what a hungry Chicagoan might feel for Italian beef sandwich.

Season 3 of The Bear found Carmy Berzatto's (Jeremy Allen White) newly re-opened and reimagined restaurant, The Bear, in a precarious spot. They are busy and thriving, but filled with stress and not making any money as they pursue a prestigious Michelin star. Carmy himself is as stressed and on-edge as ever, having blown up in the season 2 finale on his girlfriend, Claire (Molly Gordon), and goes the entire season unable to actually apologize to her.

Syd (Ayo Edebiri) is flying high professionally, but also frustrated with the way things are going on a day-to-day basis, and finds herself wondering whether she should stay on or take a potentially better chef job with Adam Shapiro, who plans to open his own spot after Chef Terry's (Olivia Colman) Ever suddenly decides to close its doors. Richie (Ebon Moss-Bachrach) continues to thrive professionally as a manager and people person, but struggles with his ex-wife's (Gillian Jacobs) forthcoming marriage to Frank (Josh Hartnett). Marcus (Lionel Boyce) has to deal with the grief that comes after losing his sick mother.

All of these storylines (and that's only a few of them) help in the greater picture of letting us know who these people in The Bear are, but only minimally push the actual show's overarching plot forward. By the end of the season, we're left on a cliffhanger—the screen literally reads 'To Be Continued...'—as The Bear's first major review comes in and we're left to wonder whether Syd plans to stay or go.

It's a lot, and, yes, that ending is frustrating. But guess what? Multiple things can be true at the same time, and we're still eagerly waiting for season 4.

Here's everything we know.

Will The Bear return for season 4?

Yes! The Bear was officially renewed for season 4 while season 3 was in production, according to Variety.

In fact, the original plan was for season 3 and season 4 to film back-to-back, which, given the way season 3 ends, would make sense. We imagine season 4 will pick up right where things leave off.

That didn't turn out to be the case, though, as Jeremy Allen White and Ayo Edebiri made clear during a recent press conference for the show. As it turns out, it sounds like they filmed some of season 4 after (or alongside) season 3, but certainly not all.

“We did something like that,” Allen White said, joined by Edebiri who herself said “Yeah, a little version of it, sort of. But not exactly.”

Despite the fact that season 4 of The Bear didn't film back-to-back with season 3 as originally planned, we can still hold out hope that it will release in June of 2025 just as seasons 1, 2, and 3, have released in June of 2022, 2023, and 2024, respectively. The show has been efficient in its production to this point, and we have no reason to doubt that.

However, one potential wrinkle in things is that the show's cast is becoming very, very famous, and getting lots of opportunities in Hollywood as a result. Ebon Moss-Bachrach is about to start filming The Fantastic Four. Jeremy Allen White will soon be playing Bruce Springsteen in Deliver Me From Nowhere. And Ayo Edebiri is in, well, seemingly everything, all the time (but she's also just begun filming Luca Guadagnino's After the Hunt alongside Julia Roberts and Andrew Garfield).

It seems doable that all of those imminent productions are wrapped up in time for The Bear to begin production for season 4 in early 2025 and make its traditional June release date. But with the key cast members so busy, it's something worth monitoring.

We can be certain that all of our key cast members—including Jeremy Allen White, Ayo Edebiri, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, Lionel Boyce, Matty Matheson, Liza Colón-Zayas, etc—will return for season 4, and we can also feel confident that our recurring guest stars—Jamie Lee Curtis, Joel McHale, Molly Gordon, Jon Bernthal—will likely return as well.

It also seems likely that we'll see Josh Hartnett and Gillian Jacobs again, as Frank and Tiff's wedding seems to be just on the horizon; a wedding like that could mean that we see the entire extended Berzatto family again. Could that mean Bob Odenkirk's Lee makes a comeback? It's certainly possible.

Whenever The Bear season 4 comes back, we can expect to see all the familiar Windy City faces—and, as is tradition, probably a few exciting new guest stars (and maybe real-life people playing themselves) as well.
