Melissa Etheridge's daughter pays tribute to brother Beckett, dead of opioid addiction at 21
Beckett Cypher, the 21-year-old son of Melissa Etheridge and Julie Cypher, has died as a result of opioid addiction, according to two tweets Wednesday from the singer-songwriter's account.
The first tweet, confirmed to USA TODAY as accurate by an Etheridge representative, said: "We're sad to inform you that Melissa's son Beckett passed away and there will not be a Concerts From Home show today. - #TeamME"
On Tuesday evening, Etheridge posted a longer tweet, detailing that her son succumbed as a result of opioid addiction.
"Today I joined hundreds of thousands of families who have lost loved ones to opioid addiction. My son Beckett, who was just 21, struggled to overcome his addiction and finally succumbed to it today. He will be missed by those who loved him, his family and friends," she wrote.

"My heart is broken. I am grateful for those who have reached out with condolences and I feel their love and sincere grief. We struggle with what else we could have done to save him, and in the end we know he is out of the pain now," she continued.
The signed message ended on a hopeful note: "I will sing again, soon. It has always healed me. - Melissa"

Grammy winner Etheridge has been conducting Concerts From Home daily on Facebook Live, with Tuesday's Day 58 performance the most recent entry.
Beckett, born in 1998, was one of two children Etheridge had with Cypher, conceived with sperm from Rock and Roll Hall of Famer David Crosby. The couple's daughter, Bailey Jean, was born in 1997. Etheridge and Cypher's relationship ended in 2000.
Late Wednesday, Crosby took issue with a Twitter commenter that said "he played no other part" in relation to the children other than being the sperm donor. "Not true," Crosby responded.
