How Ben Affleck & Jennifer Lopez’s $68M Home Played a Role in Driving Them Apart

In 2022, Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck took an excessive amount of time to find the perfect home for their blended family. They would fall in and out of escrow several times before landing on their $68 million Beverly Hills estate. It should have been a dream ending for Bennifer 2.0, but now it seems nobody ever really liked the residence to begin with.

A source close to the 55-year-old superstar revealed to People that “the $68 million mansion was Ben’s idea and a major compromise for her.” That’s a record-scratch moment because a second source told the media outlet in June that “Ben never liked the house. It’s too far away from his kids.” Ummm, did anyone like the house? How did the couple get to the point that they signed papers on the home and took out a whopping $20 million mortgage?
Lopez seemed swayed by the A-list amenities that would keep their family occupied during school breaks and weekends. “She agreed to it because of its spacious layout, accommodating both their families, a gym and a pickleball court, office space, plus it has two private entrances,” the first insider added. However, she seems to hate the modern lines of the architecture because she’s more into the “romantic, Spanish, European vibe.”
So, let’s break this down: Lopez didn’t like the style of the home and Affleck disliked the location. That seems like a costly mistake, especially when their split happened less than a year later. It might be one of the reasons why they’ve retained celebrity divorce attorney and author of It Doesn’t Have to Be That Way: How to Divorce Without Destroying Your Family or Bankrupting Yourself, Laura Wasser. She’s reportedly mediating their messy financial situation because they didn’t sign a prenuptial agreement ahead of their walk down the aisle.
Wasser gave SheKnows some great advice earlier this year about letting your divorce play out in the press. “It’s never nice to find out that you’re getting divorced by seeing it on TMZ or Radar,” Wasser said. “So, definitely let your spouse know before we file. And if you are people who are in the public eye, it may not be a bad idea to come up with a well-crafted social media post or have your PR people do it.” It looks like Lopez and Affleck could have also used some financial and real estate advice because they still have no offers on their massive Beverly Hills mansion that they barely lived in.
