‘The Big Bang Theory’ and ‘Young Sheldon’ boss looks ahead to third spinoff, ‘Georgie & Mandy’
The first “The Big Bang Theory, ” spinoff show, “Young Sheldon,” ended on Thursday night after seven seasons – but, that’s not the end of the line.
A third show in that universe is in the works on CBS, called “Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage.”
Premiering in fall 2024 and helmed by Chuck Lorre, Steven Molaro and Steve Holland, the series will follow Sheldon’s brother, George “Georgie” Cooper Jr.(Montana Jordan) as he marries and has a kid with Mandy McAllister (Emily Osment).
“Honestly, just as we watched those two actors in the last couple of seasons [of ‘Young Sheldon’] and how much fun they were on screen, it became clear that this could be a fun thing to follow,” Holland told The Post.
“And, to keep telling the stories in this universe and with this family, through these two characters.”
As the title implies, Georgie and Mandy may not find a “happily ever after” on their first go-around.
On “The Big Bang Theory,” when Georgie is played by Jerry O’Connell as an adult, it’s revealed that he’s been married and divorced twice.
Holland said that “First marriage” is a title that “we’re really excited about.”
He also said that they never anticipated making a spinoff show.
“We didn’t really have a grand plan when we brought Emily on, which is always sort of our M.O.,” he explained.
“Like when we brought Mayim [Bialik] and Melissa Rauch on ‘The Big Bang Theory,’ there was no grand plan for them to be cast members. We just brought them in, and they were so good, we kept bringing them back. And, this same sort of thing happened with Emily.”
He said that Mandy was originally supposed to be a “one-off” character, of Georgie dating a slightly older woman.
“And then Emily was terrific. And so we brought her back, and then we decided to make her pregnant. She was so much fun to watch, and she and Montana had such great chemistry together. She just became a part of the fabric of the show.”
Original “The Big Bang Theory” stars Jim Parsons and Bialik appear on the “Young Sheldon” series finale.
So, could Iain Armitage, who plays young Sheldon, appear on “Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage?”
“It’s still early days of this, we haven’t shot anything yet,” Holland explained.
But, he added, the characters still live in the fictional town of Medford, Texas, and “This is still their family. So, Sheldon’s at Caltech, but that doesn’t mean he won’t ever come back for a holiday.
He added, “We’re hopeful that this is a world where these characters can drop in from time to time. It’s also important for us to make sure the new show has its own identity and isn’t just a parade of cameos. But, we definitely think there’s room in this show for this family to make appearances.”
