Bill Murray Made His Grand Ole Opry Debut to Sing With One of His Favorite Bands, and It’s Too Wonderful for Words — Watch
The audience at Nashville’s famed Grand Ole Opry got one awesome surprise on the evening of September 25 when Bill Murray made an unannounced appearance to sing alongside country and folk music legend John Prine and The Steeldrivers. The appearance marked Murray’s Grand Ole Opry debut. The group sang Prine’s 1971 song “Paradise,” and Murray’s beaming smile as he belts out the chorus is priceless.
Murray has been a longtime fan of The Steeldrivers, the Nashville bluegrass band featuring fiddler Tammy Rogers, bassist Mike Fleming, guitarist Kelvin Damrell, mandolinist Brent Truitt, and banjoist Richard Bailey. The band is well known for being the launch pad for country music superstar Chris Stapleton. Murray has made surprise appearances at numerous Steeldrivers concerts, even buying tickets for his fans to one of the band’s 2017 concerts. The band was featured in Murray’s 2009 movie “Get Low.”
Murray’s Grand Ole Opry appearance was hardly his first live music performance of the year. The actor has spent much of 2018 on his “New Worlds” tour in promotion of his debut classical music album of the same name. Murray tours with cellist Jan Vogler, violinist Mira Wang, and pianist Vanessa Perez.
